Office Tricks : Handle Conflict Effectively

Dear Cypress Ghana Blog Readers,

Everyone knows that conflicts is a part of life and where ever individuals gather or work together, conflicts may arise (naturally).

This is a result of our varied backgrounds and expectations which means there will be different opinions at one time or another.  However, conflict, which is defined as “a serious disagreement or argument, typically a protracted one”, can be a hinderance to a healthy office environment.

The key then, is finding effective ways to deal with conflict so that it does not cloud people’s judgement and interactions while wiping out the hard work of colleagues.  Ignoring conflicts or not handling them properly can reduce levels of productivity, increase absenteeism and even cause you to lose valued members of your team.

Effective conflict handling can be achieved by using the following:
Open and honest discussion about the conflict where the parties concerned have the opportunity to tell their side and be listened to respectfully

All those involved should stick to the issue which raised the conflict and deal with that. It should not be the chance to attack individuals or call up all the wrongs they have committed

Third parties involved must not take sides although witnesses can be asked to bring information based on what they know to have taken place only

Rapper M3DAL Attacks Asem On Twitter

Hip-Hop Rapper M3DAL (@medal233) on the 26th of October openly shared his views on Asem's B.R.A (Best Rapper Alive) song which he recently released on twitter.

His first tweet which he directly mentioned to Asem's twitter handle (@AsemWORLD) read "ur b.r.a song is weak bro. We dey feel u but u no fit drop such tunes to claim best rapper alive. More work goes into that title!!

M3DAL went further by also saying "The Hip-Hop game is more uglier now. We put in more work bro. If u were around more often you would know."

These attacking tweets from M3DAL drove attention on twitter and blew up the drama. Retweets from other artistes such as E.L, C-Real and more made it even worth paying attention to. Fans immediately started sharing their views also.

For clarification of it not being a public stunt, M3DAL's last tweet to Asem read "and this is not a public stunt. Real rap heads just can't shut up to see the craft being disrespected! I wish you dopeness".

What could be between these two artistes? Are rap titles earned or just picked up? Is Asem really the Best Rapper Alive? ..Clearly M3DAL thinks Asem isn't worth that title. All we can do is stay alert and attentive for info concerning this case.

A Piece of Peace: Woman Crush Wednesday #WCW

Today is woman crush Wednesday, and for my woman crush Wednesday I dedicate it to every mother, wife, future wife, sister, auntie, daughter, grandmother and every female out there.

This goes out to all the women who are out there elevating the standards. To the woman focused on being the best they can be and not letting society’s expectations determine how far they go in life.

To the woman who desires a man of eternal quality like the virtues she embodies. To the woman that wants something so much more because she knows she is worth so much more. Today we say well done for setting an example for your peers and the younger generation to follow. You have contributed to what it means to believe in your dreams and working tirelessly to achieve them. We have come so far already and affected so many lives.

Today we look back at the struggles we have been through and our journey so far. No longer are you limited by a glass ceiling, today you determine how high that ceiling is. In every walk of life, your love, care and unflinching resolve for quality has shaped and will continue to influence a new generation of thinkers.

Consider this, there was once a time when it was believed that all the potential, talent and inspiration you had was easily contained in the title of a house wife.  It was considered fitting for you to know your position and resign to a life where you are not challenged to bring out your God given talent or pushed to redefine what the standards are.

Meet (@katigmusic) Kati G. Ghana’s Answer And Solution To Better Afrobeats And R&B Music

Other than the typical forbidden love music videos based on interracial relationships, tribal prejudice, and the so called infamous love story of Romeo and Juliet, Kati G has taken the topic of forbidden love into another level, a different point of view, and tagging it to the controversial reality of a universal argument.

Her music video can be compared to past movie's such as: John Dumelo's movie, "Men In Love," which featured scenes where top Enugu-based actor Muna Obiekwe is romancing and hitting the back side of Ghana top actor John Dumelo who is facing down on the bed without any string of inner wears, displaying a homosexuality relationship throughout the movie.

Another example would be Juliet Ibrahim lustfully playing a lesbian role as she kisses Niki Samonas, whilst Eddie Nartey played a gay role with his partner being George Dickman in the 2013 movie, titled, "Rain."

Kati G’s video tells the story of forbidden love from a different angle.  She makes you believe that a man and women desire a relationship together and because of certain circumstances, they can’t be together.  At the end of the music video you realize it’s not just a typical music video, it makes you see into the lives of other lifestyles in forbidden love situations.  I must say it was a creative point of view and not the common one.

Wizkid Arrested For Smoking Weed In Kenya?

Was Wizkid really caught for smoking weed in a Kenyan hotel last week? Kenyan publication Standard Digital said he was arrested at his Nairobi Crown Plaza hotel over the weekend.

Before police officers cuffed him and drove him to Capital Hill Police Station where he was quizzed, the hotel had already charged him with 50,000 Kenyan Shillings smoking penalty, which he paid through his credit card.

Touch Not My Anointed!!! Lydia Forson ‘Apologizes’ To Duncan Williams

Earlier today, actress Lydia Forson responded to Archbishop Duncan Williams’ statement on the role of women in marriage in a post on her Facebook page.

Few hours later, she has written an apology letter to the Man of God.

Read the reply letter HERE and the apology letter below:

Letter Of Apology

I apologize for touching your anointed. I apologize for being offended by his statement. I apologize for making a joke out of it, in fact I apologize for not writing a more serious piece on how his statement really made me feel.

I apologize for not giving bible references to all the great women in the bible who God used to do wonders even though they were “unmarried” and had no children.

I apologize that I didn’t talk about my mother, who is unmarried, and yet I value from the bottom of my heart.

#‎TwistedHumour‬ : Lydia Forson (@lydiaforson) Writes A Letter To Duncan Williams On Facebook

Dear Duncan Williams,

Can I marry you? I'm in dire need of validation and since the ratio of men to women is in your words " 7:1" I don't want to be left behind. If you can't marry me, give me one of the married men in your congregation. I will hold on to him like there's no tomorrow.

Chai, like you I also speak the truth and I don't care. So we will get on perfectly.

And I promise, with all my honor, that if you beat me, cheat on me, abuse my children and don't even provide financially for me I will stay!!

Unlike other women, I want to continue to have value so I will stay married even if it sends me to the grave. I make wild k3k3.

Ignore all those women who say what about the men? What do they mean by that? Don't they know men don't need validation? They were born validated. They can't do any wrong in Gods eyes. In fact let them be married and still sleep with a million women, there is nothing wrong with that. In fact they are even giving the women validation.

Office Tricks : 7 Ways To Be An Asset To Your Team And Organization While Developing Yourself

Dear Cypress Ghana Blog Readers,

Certain behaviours will prove that you know your value and how you contribute to the results of your organization.  Here are seven ways to achieve this:

1. Be clear about how your role and the department in which you work contribute to the organisation’s goals

2. Understand that your time there is in order for you to make a difference – not merely for be presence or fill a physical space

3. Perform at your best – on your own as well as when called to work with others.   Show commitment and set high standards in everything you do

4. Use your initiative and think of ways to improve processes and procedures; do not be afraid of criticism or leave the creativity to others.  An attitude of “no one will listen” or any such negative belief and excuse is unhelpful.  Keep an open mind and consider the merits of others’ suggestions

5. Even if you feel you are over qualified, unappreciated or undervalued in your role, learn all you can so that your time there is productive and beneficial to all concerned

6. Own up when you make mistakes and be willing to take and give credit when due

7. Be willing to share information and organize your knowledge and experience in a way that others can learn from and use as a means to the company.  Documenting best practices and implementing developing improved measures will bring success.

Just when everyone thought they had seen that entire she had to offer, actress/TV and radio personality, Afia Schwarzenegger has managed to pull off yet another surprise from her seemingly endless pool of talents.

Patrons at the recently- held maiden edition of the Ghana Television Prime Time Awards were pleasantly surprised when the pint-sized actress, real name Valentina Agyeiwaa, mounted the stage and performed an exciting 10-minute stand-up comedy routine, which went down very well with the audience.

In an interview with Showbiz, Afia Schwarzenegger, who seemed pleasantly surprised by the public reaction to her stand-up comedy, revealed she had always been a ‘humour monger’ and what she did on the night was just a little aspect of her capability with comedy.

She revealed that she had been in the stand-up comedy business for over two years and had performed gigs in Ghana and beyond.

“I did a private show last year for the Rotary Club, Miss Polytechnic 2012 pageant as well as shows in Port Harcourt and South Africa and a few here and there,” she said.

The hilarious host of Kokooko on UTV said she was capable of holding audience attention beyond 90 minutes and getting them adequately entertained.

Clemok Solutions, publishers of Exclusive Men’s Magazine – Ghana’s only magazine dedicated to celebrating men of exclusive exploits, are set to honour radio mavin, Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, popularly known as Abeiku Santana come 30th October, 2014.

Exclusive Men’s Magazine is a revered, most read, most patronized, and largely circulated lifestyle magazine solely dedicated to celebrating men of exclusive achievements and have impacted and continues to do so positively into their chosen field and the society at large.

So far, Exclusive Men’s Magazine has covered respected personalities in Ghana’s showbiz such as: Kwami Sefa Kayi of Peace 104.3 FM, hiplife artist The Rapdacta Okyeame Kwame of One Mic Entertainment, MUSIGA and GHAMRO, and Bola Ray of Empire Group of Companies and Starr Fm.

This current one, which marks their 6th edition, Exclusive Men’s Magazine is set to celebrate OK FM’s Abeiku Santana for his prodigious contribution to radio broadcasting, Ghana’s creative arts industry, and the social-economic development of Ghana. Asked how he feels, Abeiku Santana told Razz Newspaper: “I feel very humbled and elated.

“I give thanks to God almighty Jehovah who has brought me out of obscurity into prominence. I’m not perfect but I’m not bad. I like myself. The lord shall not cause the righteous to suffer. I’m sorry to anybody that I have hurt unknowingly.”

Why Abeiku Santana? This is the response the CEO of Clemok Solutions, Mr. Clement Owusu-Kwakye, gave: “We settled on Abeiku after conducting a series of regional polls with 3 names. At the end of the poll, majority chose Abeiku so we said if the people are saying they want the Santana Man himself, why deny or disrespect their opinion? Abeiku Santana is indeed an exclusive achiever. For him to have accepted our offer to honour him is equally an honour to us.”

[Play Peview] Kalybos In Tales Of Father Amos

Dear Cypress Ghana Blog Readers,

I have a few questions for you.

1. Can Ghanaians ever miss the opportunity to catch the arrival of the ‘The Only Boss With One ‘S’”?

The answer is simply no. Around campus, you could observe people shaking their heads in an ‘OMG, I mustn’t miss this’ way whenever they catch the poster of the event. I was one of them, surprisingly.

I am not one to rally around a Ghanaian celebrity (huge things move me with little effect). But, I really didn’t want to miss this event. Not because I’ve ever watched anything from The Only Boss (which my friends open their mouths for shock whenever they hear me say this. “Are you in Ghana at all??”). I just wanted to see what the whole Kalybos fusscination was all about.

2. Can Ghanaians ever show up on time for an event?

I would leave that to you to search within and come out with an answer after observing instances from your own experiences (with yourself!).

3. Have Ghanaians ever seen a musical comedy that good?

OK. Before I answer that, let me give you a brief description of this play. A Reverend father supposed to bless a marriage dies on the due date. A shoemaker arrives to polish his shoe for his big moment, realizes he’s dead and decides taking his valuables. That moment a robber walks in, the two connive on hiding the body and taking his valuables.

GHRAPHIC SHOWBIZ GOT IT WRONG - TIC TAC (@tictacgh) REPLIES

Multiple award winner, entrepreneur and Chairman of Greater Accra Musicians Union of Ghana, Tic-Tac has expressed disappointment and shock to a story Graphic showbiz carried on him on page-8 of their October 19, 2014 edition with the headline Tic-Tac Back with All Over The World.

Tic-Tac has indicated that he was misrepresented in the said report and things he did not say were attributed to him in a quote.

The writer, according to Tic Tac, stated in her story that he (Tic-Tac) claimed in the interview that he had joined the Azonto and Alkayida train, which was not true. “Neither did I say I have joined the Azonto and Alkayida train nor condemned the revolution”, Tic-Tac explained.

The musician challenged the writer to play the interview and publish for readers since the interview was recorded.

According to the musician who had hits such as Philomina, Mmaformular, Kangaroo, PumPum, Bosoe, he feels strongly about the said quotes because he had his style and even though he had nothing against Azonto or Alkayida, he wished to be known for what he does and nothing else.

A Piece of Peace: I Am Not My Situation

Hi faith builders and welcome to this weeks ‘PIECE OF PEACE’. If this is your first time reading, I would like to thank you for taking the time to read a little bit of my thoughts on things that inspire and motivate me.

I hope you find something in today’s post that helps you overcome whatever situation you are going through. Today I would like to share on the topic of ‘I AM NOT MY SITUATION!’.

Trauma is any situation that challenges an individual’s view of the world as a just, safe and predictable place. It shakes the foundation of whatever wall of security we have built for ourselves.  It can be very difficult to overcome because most often than not, it happens without any just cause or provocation. Our mind struggles to accept the negative situation that has just happened and we go through a denial phase.

The difficulty in overcoming trauma lies in the fact that the mind is simply not able to move past the hurt or the pain our experiences have caused. It is important to remember however that, Sometimes you have to forget what’s gone, appreciate what still remains and look forward to what’s happening next.

Suffering is essentially life’s gift. It brings knowledge, compassion, strength and understanding. When we are brought to our knees, we develop a closer relationship with God. Through the trust we develop with that relationship, there are no challenges we cannot face or overcome.  When something bad happens you have three choices. You can either let it define you.
