Tonto Dikeh Sends Motivational Message To Her Fans On Social Media

Nigerian actress Tonto Dikeh shared this on her instagram page this morning. Very encouraging.

READ WHAT SHE WROTE.....

As you read this, remember you have a warm bed and a cooked meal at home.

Everyone wants to be happy, so pay attention. Acknowledge that happiness is not quantified by materialism. I know many people who are reading this right now aren't happy with their lives.

I used to think that when I have a nice car and a lot of money I would be happy. Yet on my journey I have met hundreds of people with all of these things, yet none of the happiness.

If your bank balance outweighs your sense of purpose, or your only sense of purpose is working to achieve a greater bank balance, you will struggle to find happiness.

Some guidelines for happiness I wrote down. Appreciate what you have, gaining more won't make you happy if you aren't happy with what you already have. Live in the moment, don't video everything you see, take it in whilst it is happening, then relive the memories forever. You were there but looking at a phone screen...?

Students Display Artistic Talent At Ghana International School’s Adaptation Of ‘In the Heights’

A scene from  'In the Heights' by GIS students at the National Theatre

How To Beat Your Wife - By Charly Boy

When I look back at my life, and all the stuff I did as a carefree, young and restless youth,  I can't help but shudder at some of my very bad habits. Yes, I was once short-fused; blowing off at the slightest provocation. It was pitiful.

Over time I have managed to rid myself of such sad habits but that can't be said for a lot of men some of who, even late in their lives can't still get over it, thereby losing their cool in their homes. No be small thing sha.

Domestic violence is an under reported crime in Nigeria, almost accepted as norm. Some  men feel it's their right, some feel it's always the women who bring out the beast in them, while others will readily admit its a way of stamping their authority in the home. Sadly, many don't see anything wrong with beating their wives.

How sad! Yes, am aware there are women who beat up their husbands, but those are in the minority and this piece ain't about them. The most guilty perpetrators are usually men and the victims are mostly their wives and sometimes their children too.

Men abusing women is like a defence and coping mechanism for being or feeling WEAK in other aspects of life, sometimes including deep analog beliefs about masculinity. Men who abuse loved ones tend to blame other things or people for their violent outbursts. In some cases, it is a cycle: "my father abused me and my mom, so, it's  normal".

Movie Maker, Frank Rajah Says His Life Is No Longer Safe In Ghana

Nigerian-born movie director Frank Rajah has told News-One he had cause to believe his life was no longer safe in Ghana and therefore fled the country to Nigeria.

Rajah has worked in Ghana as a movie producer for over a decade but recently left for Nigeria and has for the first time explained his abrupt exit.

According to Frank Rajah, though he loves working in Ghana, it became critical to relocate to Nigeria because his security was no longer assured in Ghana.

He said while in Ghana, he was attacked by well-organised gangs on different occasions for reasons he found strange.

On all the occasions he was attacked, he noted, his attackers never stole any property of his except a hard drive which contained new movies he had shot and was working on.

“I went home on different occasions to see my things scattered in my room. They never stole anything and I don’t know what they were looking for. One time too I was driving in town and they stopped [me] and searched my bag and took my hard drive containing my movies. I had my phones with me but they never took them. It was strange and I couldn’t believe it. It didn’t just happen once. I don’t feel safe,” Rajah said.

A Piece of Peace – The Value Of A Mother

Hello and welcome to a piece of peace, your weekly dose of motivation and inspiration. Today I would like to share on a very important profession, being a mother and the title of my topic is “the value of a mother”.

Being a mother is something I feel is one of the most important callings a woman can have. It is a profession that not everyone is equipped to do.

It may be bestowed on you unwillingly or you may make the conscious effort to do it, but either ways, it can be one of the most important things you will ever do simply because how well you perform, will either build or destroy someone’s future.

On the other hand, there is no Paycheck for motherhood. There is no reward or appraisal to let you know how well or not you are doing. There is only the love, the care and the relentless hard work you put in. There are no prior qualifications or experience because no one can really teach another person how to become a good mother.

This is because the profession of motherhood is all about influence. You and I have an incredible opportunity to influence the next generation by what we do as a mother every day. The way we talk, act and conduct ourselves can directly or indirectly sow certain types of seeds in the lives of our children.

Tbt. We are often in a hurry to get to where we want to be in life, that we forget what we have endured to get to where we are now.

I look back at my journey over the past 3 years and although I am nowhere where I want to be, I am grateful for all I have achieved.  I remember when I just moved to Nigeria and was staying with family in ebutu metta, there was a certain man who I had several meetings with to develop a business idea of mine at the time.

All was progressing well till he eventually turned the pages and approached me with his desire for me. He changed his rapport and even offered to buy me a flat in banana island so I could be more comfortable and settled.

VGMA 2015 ‘UNSUNG’ Category Nominees A Mismatch For Koo Ntakra – Papa Quasy Writes

After the release of the 2015 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards UNSUNG category nominees which has become very prominent in the annual awards scheme ever since its introduction last year by GHone TV, there has been various views expressed by the general public over the nominees, of which I have also critically analysed it in my own perspective.

The announcement which raised several eyebrows especially on social media as to the overlook of certain names, which many thought, if not deserved the main awards nominations, should have been in this enviable category has as well gained more public attention.

As a music lover, as well as an entertainment publicist over the years, I have had the privilege to work, write and see many of our young artistes grow from the underground to becoming main stream artiste in the industry, giving me a fair idea to analyse such a category for the prestigious Ghana Music Awards.

It is no doubt, the six names unveiled as nominees for the said category don’t deserve their place in there, but as to who really stands out is the major decision for many out there to take, but going through each one’s profile and work over the past year, am highly convinced out of, Nero X, Dark Suburb, Mz Yankey, Kingz Kid and Luther, Koo Ntakra, the former MTN Hitmaker stands tall.

Who Really Determines Which Song Is Popular In Ghana?

The above question always comes to mind whenever the process for an edition of the Ghana Music Awards commences.

For many years, I have been asking myself, really, who has the right to determine which song is more popular in Ghana?

It is very tedious for a musician to walk into a studio, book and record a song, not forgetting the numerous problems they go through in the promotion of the songs and they are overlooked in the prestigious Ghana Music Awards with the excuse that, the songs are not popular. How heartbreaking!

Sometimes, one just admires when musicians are interviewed concerning how they managed to put down words together to make a beautiful song which has become a hit and very popular in the country, sometimes even beyond the shores of Ghana.
