The jam is noted for rocking all the cities it had toured over the years Takoradi, Kumasi, Tamale, Accra and now Cape Coast have tasted the fun and excitement that the Jam promises each year.

The stars descended on the coastal city, they were met with an eager and wild crowd who were poised for action. They knew every song, danced to every beat, sang along to all the choruses and partied till the wee hours of the morning.

As was expected, the stage of the biggest pre-event party in GH was not only for the nominees alone. The unsung artistes and “local champions” also took to the stage. It was three way battle with the nominees on one side, unsung artistes on the other and the local champions in the middle. The local champions came with a plan, to show the visitors the stuff there were made of, it was a “home match” they had every intension of winning.

The unsung artistes also had their own agenda; they were on stage to fight for a performance of their lifetime which is a chance to perform on the stage of the most anticipated event on GH entertainment calendar.

For them, that performance is their claim to fame and they had to outperform each other and hope that the crowd would vote massively for them. One after the other, Koo Ntakra, Nero X, Mz Yankeey, Luther, Kingzkid and Dark Suburb took turns to thrill audiences; it is unclear who would be the chance to perform on music’s biggest night. Fingers are crossed with anticipation for the announcement of the winner.

Then came the turn of the nominees, this year all genres were represented. Reggae and dancehall were represented by the two women who are making waves in that genre. There is a perceived rivalry between the MzVee and Kaakie, real or not, one thing became certain in Cape Coast these two girls are in a class of their own and both deserve the title of dancehall queen. Gospel had a worthy representation on the night in Selina Boateng and Joe Mettle.

These two did not only bring the churchy feeling but as expected their interactions with the crowd is what made their performance memorable. Selina showed her vocal ability and Joe effortlessly performed various renditions of gospel tunes that got the crowd bringing out their handkerchiefs to dance. Representing hip hop genre was EL, Pappy Kojo and Joey B. EL made a fan out of many as he brought with him to Cape Coast all his swag and confidence. El’s performance reached a peak when he made it possible for fans to tell him which of his hit songs he should perform.

Pappy Kojo and Joey B raised the excitement of the fans as they received a rousing welcome when they appeared on stage. Those two gave a new meaning to energetic performances, they kept the crowd entertained all through their performance.

Afriyie was the only highlife representative and he did not let the genre down. He sent the crowd gay when he took them back to singing hit songs from his time was a member of the now defunct Wutah. Cape Coasters proved they meant business when they defied the rains during D Black’s performance. He brought them hits after hits and when he performed his collaboration with Castro, the whole arena went crazy.

It was a worthy climax to an unforgettable event of nothing but great music. After all the electrifying performances, one thing can be said about this year’s nominees jam, it pulled the most energetic crowd ever, Cape Coast gave meaning to the theme, “Ignited by Passion”. The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is sponsored by Vodafone Ghana, produced by Charterhouse, supported By Star, powered by GHOne Entertainment Television and brought to you by 25 million people ignited by passion.
