AFRIMA Withdraws Hosting Rights From Ghana

The International Committee of the All Africa Music Awards, (AFRIMA) has withdrawn the hosting rights from Republic of Ghana for the 2019 and 2020 editions of the All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA, over lack of capacity by the Host Country to meet the financial and contractual obligations entered to on July 12,2018, necessary to retain hosting the biggest music event in Africa.

The decision was reached on Monday, July 15 after several months of meetings and consultations with relevant stakeholders to remedy the situation with the expectation that the Republic of Ghana would provide concrete assurances and guarantees to discharge its contractual obligations for hosting the 2019 and 2020 editions of AFRIMA after its disappointing performance on the contract during the 2018 edition of the Awards held in Accra between November 21 and 24 which the organisers successfully put together against all odds.

It would be recalled that decision of the African Union (AU) and AFRIMA to award a three-term hosting right (2018-2020) of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) to Ghana followed the declaration of the President of Ghana, His Excellency, Nana Akufo Addo of his desire to host the AFRIMA Awards in Ghana made on May 21, 2018 during the AFRIMA 2018 Calendar Unveiling Ceremony held in Accra.

After initially complying to some of the host country responsibilities, Ghana’s hosting rights for the 5th AFRIMA was publicly announced by the African Union at the African Union Secretariat Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on September 5, 2018 and a letter signed by the Commissioner of Social Affairs, African Union, Mrs. Amira El Fadil dated September 13, 2018 to effect the hosting rights was dispatched to the Government of the Republic of Ghana through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture, Ghana.

BBNaija Twist: Two New Housemates Enter The ‘Pepper Dem’ House

Fans of Africa’s biggest reality TV show, BBNaija, were on Tuesday night introduced to two brand new housemates – Venita and Elozanam! The introduction of the new housemates follows an announcement made by show host Ebuka, during Sunday’s eviction show, regarding a “twist” in the coming week.  The new housemates’ entrance into the house brings the present number of housemates to 16.

One of the new housemates is Venita, 32, a British-Nigerian Actress known for her role as Mimi in the comedy hit series ‘AY’s Crib’. Venita’s introduction has already seen sparks fly as she has struck an interesting relationship with the older housemates; the guys, especially Omashola, seem to be already fond of her.

The second housemate introduced to the house is Elozanam, a popular social media personality known for viral instagram skits. He is also an actor with roles in some of Nigeria’s popular TV series.

BBNaija: Tacha, Mike, Jeff And Omashola Up For Possible Eviction

With seven housemates now out of the BBNaija ‘Pepper Dem’ house, the competition is getting stiff and the strategies becoming clearer.

The housemates once again took part in another Nomination session on Monday night following which Tacha, Mike, Jeff and Omashola were announced as the housemates up for possible eviction. According to Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, the show’s host, at least one of them will leave the house at the next Live Eviction Show on Sunday, August 4.

Earlier in the day, Frodd emerged winner of the Head of House challenge and was automatically exempted from nomination.

Sadly, there was no Veto Power holder to save or replace a nominated housemate, as Big Brother cancelled the privilege following the housemates’ failure to impress him during the challenge on Sunday night.

Will Tacha and Mike once again survive another round of eviction? Or will nomination newcomers, Jeff and Omashola, rake in enough votes to stay in the game? The housemates will have to wait till Eviction day to find out.

WATCH: First Look Of A Scene From Eli Kharis-produced ‘The Curfew’ Movie

The Ashanti Kingdom of Ghana, West Africa, is one of the few traditional institutions in Africa to maintain its rich culture since its inception in 1670. Until 1901 when they were defeated by the British, the Ashanti had a growing empire which was very powerful and conquered neighbouring kingdoms in its expansion project.

The kingdom has inspired many documentaries and films as a result of its rich history and tradition. The latest is The Curfew, a movie that was inspired by the funeral of the late Ashanti queen mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, who died in 2016 at age 111 and was buried in secrecy in late 2017.

In a drive to empower the digital lives of customers, Vodafone has partnered Samsung to launch a new smartphone campaign.

The move reflects the strong relationship between Vodafone and the mobile phone manufacturer that has existed for many years. Last year, Vodafone teamed up with Samsung to drive a hugely successful campus activation campaign across five of the nation’s key tertiary institutions.

Between July and October this year, the smartphone campaign will enable customers to purchase Samsung Galaxy A series smartphones namely: Galaxy A2 Core; Galaxy A10; and Galaxy A20 - at attractive prices, and receive a free Vodafone SIM card as well as 1GB free data every month for 12 months. Additionally, customers also get to subscribe to any of the data offers to enjoy more talk time and browse the internet.

Global Content Piracy On The Rise

As digital systems have become more prominent globally and accessible to most in the last couple of years, so has the rise of illegal web and unlicensed web streaming sites. In a report by MUSO, released in March 2019, global piracy numbers reached almost 190 billion pirate site visits in 2018.

It has been reported that over 189 billion visits were made to pirate sites in 2018. Television related piracy took up 49.38% of all activity related to piracy, with only 17.9% for access to film.  Music was ranked third most pirated medium in 2018, with a 15.87% share. Publishing and software were less affected with 11.49% and 6.16% respectively.

In addition, in a recent report from Irdeto, MultiChoice Group’s digital platform security partner, in March 2019, Ghana, Algeria, Angola, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania were reported to be the highest consumers of pirated content in Africa.

Streaming piracy has now overtaken all other forms of threat to the revenue of legitimate service providers that have paid for content rights according to the wide consensus. It is estimated that almost 60 % of all piracy visits are to unlicensed web streaming sites, whereas public torrent networks now only equate to 13% of piracy visit activity.  The arrival of IP-based distribution has raised further concerns.

Stacy Amewoyi Talks About True Love And How To Grow It Together

I had a one on one conversation with a friend sometime ago, he told me his relationship broke up with his best friend which made him loose interest in many things.

This was what he told me “The last time I was with her, before saying goodbye, she told me that she did not believe that friendship exists between the opposite gender.”

While the divorce rate in Africa is 37%, America is close to 50%, Europe 53%, and Asia is 15% these tells you that, true love seems to be a fiction of any Nigerian movies, Ghanaian movies, and Hollywood movie.

I determined to find the meaning of truth Love so I met so many different men and women and they told me their experiences and views on Love issues. These are some of the knowledge i have gained about successful relationships.

Make Memories Daily

"Couples who try to experience some kind of meaningful connection every day, or create a fun memory; They are the couples that shattered my perception of what was possible in a love relationship. "

Never Stop Growing

"I learned that a long-term relationship is not about making you happy. It's about personal growth. To put it simply, the happiness we all desire is a result of overcoming challenges and obstacles together, and experiencing the emotions of victory and achievement. "

DKB Gets Back His 4,000gh From Dafabet To Do Charity

It is no news now that comedian DKB lost his bet on Ghana Black Stars to win the African Cup of Nations Tournament. Well, can you blame him, most Ghanaians were optimistic that this time around the Stars will bring back Gold. To his [DKB] disappointment the Black Stars exited at the second stage of the competition.

The comedian after the loss expressed his disappointment  and admitted this was the first time he has ever placed a bet. In a social media post right after the match that saw the Ghana Black Stars out of the tournament, the comedian said “The First time I decided to put my confidence in the Black Stars and place my bet, Ghc 4000 is gone, I could have used it for something profitable like for charity...” Nothing could spell hurt more than the video the comedian put out after the disappointing defeat.

Additional information reaching us says the sports betting company; DAFABET, has decided to give back the Ghc 4000 to DKB to be used for Charity. According to the Country Manager Sybil Diawuo-Appiah, "DKB's bet got a lot of mileage across social media and news lines, so we decided to appreciate him by returning his stake amount to him for any charity of his choice”. This would mean the money is not completely lost, but would serve as a benefit to many under privileged individuals in our society.

Zee TM Jabs Fallen Ghanaian Music Groups

New Ghanaian music duo, Zee Town Melody (ZeeTM), has gone hard on fallen groups in the Ghanaian music industry while labeling individuals in such groups as "greedy and selfish".

In an exclusive interview with the 'Guda' boys, they claimed these groups began very well but as the fame and money got into their heads, individuals of these groups became greedy and selfish.

"Growing up, we listened to great songs by some of these groups and if they were still together they would have taken Ghana music to the next level but fame and money led to greed and selfishness."

Vodafone Talks Private Sector Relevance In SDGs At UN Forum

Mr. Gayheart Mensah, External Affairs Director of Vodafone Ghana, has said that private sector players have immense potential to accelerate the attainment of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Ghana, if they put their minds and efforts behind it.

Speaking at a side-event during the UN High Level Political Forum (HLPF) at the UN Headquarters in New York on the theme, "Empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality”, Gayheart called for a relook at how successful organisations are assessed, in order to ensure that the private sector contributes more significantly to delivering on the SDGs.

“Organizations should not be assessed only by how profitable or economically sustainable they are. The social and economic sustainability of their activities should be key components of any assessment, and not just left to conscience, morality and ethics. This will make organizations strive for partnerships and the appropriate governance framework that will support the attainment of the 2030 Agenda,” he suggested.

He said that Vodafone is persuaded that there is something more valuable than just being a profitable organization and that is the impact an organization has on people and communities. That, he stated, explains the current partnership Vodafone has with the Government of Ghana, particularly the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).

At the end, Seyi & Frodd topped the nomination list with a total of six votes each, with Tuoyo coming next with five votes. Mike received four votes while Tacha had four votes.

The shocker of the show however came after the revelation of the nominations, with Seyi refusing to save himself with his veto power. “Biggie” had hitherto called on Seyi, asking about using his veto power to save and replace himself with another housemate. In the most surprising twist, however, Seyi declined to use his power and refused to replace himself with any other housemate.
