Makeup Artistry, Great For Africa’s Economic Freedom - Rebecca Donkor

Rebecca Donkor, the CEO of Makeup Ghana, the Industry Advocate for Colour Cosmetics (Makeup) in Ghana and organisers of the Ghana Makeup Awards and the Africa Makeup & Beauty Fair, has urged Africans to take the Makeup Industry as a serious business sector.

Rebecca further urged that the continent should not consider Makeup Artistry as only for making women confident in their looks, but also as a vibrant, fast-growth sector to help drive the continent’s economic growth.

'The Makeup and Beauty Industry is one of the most dynamic and innovative business sectors globally and if we can take advantage of it, it will drive the economic freedom Africa strives to attain. Makeup is serious business” she stated.

Rebecca was speaking to NEWS-ONE after receiving the 2019 Africa Makeup Icon of the Year Award in Nigeria. This was during the first edition of Face of Zikel International Awards held over the weekend.

Rebecca was given this award in recognition of her contribution towards Africa's Makeup Industry. In the past few years she has helped raise standards in the Makeup & Beauty Industry. The Ghana Makeup Awards, pioneered the celebration of excellence by Ghanaian and African practitioners, businesses  and brands in the Makeup and Beauty Industry.

The Africa Makeup & Beauty Fair, connects the most celebrated and influential beauty brands on the African continent to consumers and global partners each year in Accra. The Makeup Academy is empowering women though its Makeup Artistry Empowerment Training, which equips female trainees with skills and a business startup kit to become Makeup Artistry entrepreneurs.

“I am humbled and inspired to push for greater heights by this incredible honor bestowed on me by the organizers of Face of Zikel International Awards. This Africa Makeup Icon Award will remind me to continue in the toil, sweat, long nights and hard work of growing Africa's Makeup & Beauty Industry.

To every woman within the Beauty Industry, I say let us take full ownership of our ideas, skills and experiences and project Africa unto the global Colour Cosmetics arena, proud and strong as African women.

To every industry stakeholder, I say strive to excel and grow the next global beauty icons from Africa,” Rebecca said when speaking about her recognition.
