Broadcaster and conference host Henry Bonsu will receive a GUBA Outstanding Journalist and Broadcast Personality award on the 4th July 2015. The Ghana UK Based Achievement (GUBA) Awards, held annually to recognise and celebrate success of Ghanaian individuals and businesses in the UK, shall take place this year at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Edgware Road, London.
Currently, Bonsu is an international MC and has hosted summits at the UN General Assembly in New York, as well as Brussels, Kigali and Abidjan, to name a few. This work specialises on global economic development, with a particular focus on Africa.
Bonsu also hosts business events such as the Cartier Women’s Initiative Awards, the African Banker Awards and the Global African Investment Summit, and he is a member of the Equality and Diversity Committee of NHS England.
A graduate from Magdalen College, Oxford University, Bonsu initially worked as a researcher, and producer on popular current affairs programmes, such as: BBC Radio 4’s Today and BBC 2’s Black Britain, and as a presenter on BBC London 94.9, and a panellist on The Wright Stuff on Five. He was a major investor in Colourful Radio, the former DAB and satellite station, securing interviews with the biggest names in UK politics, and tackling burning issues in our community.
Bonsu has been an analyst on Sky News and Al Jazeera, presented shows on satellite channels such as Vox Africa and BET International, and has worked as a print journalist for specialist newspapers like The Voice and Caribbean Times, as well as mainstream papers such as The Times, Express, The Guardian and The Evening Standard.
The Outstanding Journalist and Broadcast Personality Award that Bonsu will receive is one of GUBA’s Black Star Awards. These are reserved for consistently dedicated and prosperous individuals in their prospective fields within the Ghanaian community - Bonsu being a perfect example due to his unwavering commitment and positive impact in media. Alongside the Black Star Awards, there are three voting categories: Artist Extraordinaire Award, GUBA Humanitarian Award and GUBA Young and Talented Award. Voting for these categories can be done via http://osikiapp.com/guba/ with winners being unveiled on the night.
