Ato Afful Becomes Y102.5FM Kumasi Boss

Mr. Samuel Ato Afful, Communication Specialist and a Trainer, has been appointed as the new General Manager of the newly established Kumasi branch of YFM.

The Kumasi branch of the YFM family, which was launched in October 2014, is an addition to the other stations in Accra and Takoradi.

YFM, which is the official radio station for the young at heart, serve the youth with music and entertainment programmes.

According to Mr. Afful, YFM is a subsidiary of Global Media Alliance, undoubtedly a huge force to reckon with in the media /communications and public relations industry in Africa.

“YFM is the first radio network in Ghana to introduce the triangular way of broadcasting where the mid-morning and drive time programmes are broadcast simultaneously on all the three branches across the nation”, he added.

Mr Samuel Ato Afful said “I believe my desire for continued success in seemingly challenging environments is a contributory factor in my decision to give up my job as a lecturer to lead an English speaking radio station in a predominantly Akan (twi) speaking territory”.

Operating on the frequency of 102.5, YFM, Kumasi, under his leadership, they have successfully organized and partnered a number of events since he took over in December 2014 and notable among the events include the hugely patronized Alomo Aponkye Nkrakra party, Kasapreko Air force Bitter Jams in December 2014 and the just ended Valentines’ Day Football gala cum blood donation exercise with the Actors’ Guild.

Before joining YFM, Mr. Afful was a lecturer and head of journalism at African University College of Communications (AUCC). He revamped the Radio Discovery (AUCC campus radio) during his three year engagement with the college.

He was a former Senior News Editor, Programmes Manager and General Manager of Choice FM, an Accra based radio station and worked at TV3 Limited as Broadcast Journalist and Web Editor (Content).

Mr Afful holds a Masters Degree in International Communications Management and a Diploma in Journalism; with several certificates in Journalism, Events Management and Protocol, Effective Communication, among others.

He was trained by the University of Professional Studies, Netherlands; Radio Nederland Training Centre, Netherlands; World Bank Institute, Tanzania; Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Ghana; Ghana Institute of Journalism, Ghana; DW Akademie, Germany; and the University of Ghana, Ghana.
