A Piece of Peace: NEVER DESPISE THE DAYS OF SMALL BEGINNINGS

In 1997 two friends had a dream. It was a fairly simple one, to create a search engine. They took up space in a garage and hired one other employee to begin on that humble dream. Today, the company, GOOGLE, is one of the largest companies in the world.  In 2013, the company had an annual turnover of $50 billion.

Richard Branson started a small record company, VIRGIN from the crypt of an old church. Today he is estimated to be worth around $6 billion dollars according to Forbes. It is true what they say. A journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step. We often hear of these types of success stories and most of the time, we envision a glamorous beginning and an even happier journey to riches. It is certainly never the case. Every great success story has one thing in common. It begins with only a dream.

The journey to success can be a very lonely one. You will face all types of rejection on the way. Steve jobs got fired from the same company he founded.  He did not give up however, he went on to start two more companies, the second of which was bought back by APPLE where he returned again to be the CEO of his former company. His story shows us one key lesson.

You alone are responsible for making your dreams come true. None of these great companies or success stories decided to quit when they faced hurdles in their lives. They overcame them and kept on pushing even when it seemed like all was lost. It is important to understand that, it is nobody’s responsibility to make you rich or successful. You cannot blame people for not having the same vision as you. The good news is, you do not need them to have your vision. It is yours for a reason and only you can make that dream a reality.

We are often bombarded with setbacks especially in the beginning stages of our dreams. This is the hardest stage. If you are reading this today, no matter what you are trying to start up, remember, you are at a point in your journey where a lot of great people once were.

They were facing the same struggles you are facing today. They needed that start-up capital, that delivery van, that little grocery store. They fought against people telling them to give up on their dreams and that they were silly to even think such a dream was possible.

Nothing is truly impossible with hard work and dedication and a massive injection of favour from GOD. You are in the right place and the difficulties you are facing today, will form the basis of your success story in the future. Never give up on that dream you have.

Note to Self: “No matter how great the talent or efforts, some things just take time. You can’t produce a baby in one month by making nine women pregnant” - Warren Buffet. #Ponder!

Remember, Be yourself, everyone else is taken.

Peace Hyde.
