Box Office Sports Promotions and SuperSport Africa, at a press conference at the Press Centre of the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday 17th April 2014, announced Friday 16th May 2014 as the new date for the much anticipated boxing bout between Brimah Kamoko alias Bukom Banku and Ayitey Powers, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The bout dubbed as “The Judgment Night” was initially scheduled to take place on Friday 18th April 2014 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
At the press conference, the two boxers, Brimah Kamoko and Ayitey Powers and their managers, both indicated their commitment to mount the ring on Friday 16th May 2014 and further assured boxing lovers and their fans of a memorable fight.
Mr Peter Zwennes, the Presdient of the Ghana Boxing Association, also assured boxing fans that the GBA was fully involved in ensuring that the fight takes place in line with all the boxing rules and regulations and indicated that the two boxers had signed agreements that would allow the GBA to sanction them if they didnt turn up for the much anticipated bout on May 16th.
Speaking on behalf of SuperSport, the General Manager of MultiChoice Ghana, Mr. Cecil Sunkwa-Mills said “SuperSport remains committed to the development of Ghanaian boxing and other sports. We are excited about the pledge by both boxers to fight on the new date and the support from the Ghana Boxing Authority to ensure the bout takes place. SuperSport will produce and broadcast the bout live to boxing lovers across the continent in digital quality pictures and sound on the SuperSport Select channel”.
He went on to say that “we are confident that this fight will be the first of many once we are able to demonstrate to the whole of Africa that Ghana is able to organize and host a professional boxing tournament”
The “Judgment Night” bout will air on the DStv and GOtv networks as well as on the DStv and GOtv Walka platforms to over 2.9 million viewers across Africa, whilst an estimated 1 million Ghanaians will watch the fight live on TV3, the official Ghanaian local Free to Air broadcast partner for the boxing match.
“The Judgment Night” fight is currently sponsored by Best Western Premier Hotel, Citi FM and Happy FM.
Tickets to the event are currently selling at GHS10 for regular, GHS50 for VIP and GHS100 for VVIP at all MultiChoice Ghana offices in Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi, TV3 Network in Accra and the Tema branch of Space TV. Tickets with the old date, April 18th 2014, are still valid.
