Obour Explains Why Car Prize Is For New Artiste

At the time one will be reading this paper, it is evidently clear that the Ghana Music Week (GMW) festival hosted by the musicians union of Ghana (MUSIGA) will be underway and that some of the activities had already started in earnest.

That notwithstanding, Flex newspaper will link readers up to the rest of the activities lined up to make the celebration a worthwhile exercise. In a statement released to the media last Monday, the following activities were once again earmarked to remind festival goers the need to be part of the celebration.

“Ghana Music Honours 2014 comes off at the National Theater on Wednesday March 5, 2014. An awards show by musicians for musicians, we will honour 15 deserving musicians and personalities in the music Industry.  Join us for quality Live Band Music at +233 Pub on THURSDAY MARCH 6th. We will have a Music BUSINESS Workshop at the British Council at 10am on FRIDAY MARCH 7th. The workshop will focus on ways to market and promote Ghanaian music and musicians in this modern era.
SATURDAY MARCH 8th is the GH. ALL-STAR LIVE Concert, which comes off at the Accra Stadium; where we will celebrate Ghana’s 57th Independence Anniversary with 57 Ghanaian hits plus two Jamaican Stars.  I would like to thank our key sponsors for sharing in our dream and supporting this project. Airtel Ghana and Accra Breweries Ltd. Also, thanks to Kasapreko, Ashfoam, Fiesta Condoms, Tecno Mobile, Ideal Finance, Goil, Channel O, Eurostar Limousines, Indomie, Traphix Catering, South African Airways andArik Air.

Special thanks to our organizing partners- National Theater, British Council, Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, TV3, GH-One, Citi FM and Fantasy Entertainment. I wish to sincerely thank all Ghanaians especially entertainment review hosts on TV and radio, and writers of entertainment columns for your commitment and dedication to supporting not only the Music industry but the general entertainment industry. Let us work together to make this dream a reality” the president noted.

In another development, the president of the Musicians Union Bice Osei Kuffour has told Flex newspaper that the joint prize package between the union and Charter House for giving a car to the ultimate winner of the awards will change in this year`s Ghana Music Awards. Instead of the ultimate winner artiste(s) of the year going home with the car, this time the car will rather go to the new artiste of the year.

“Even from last year, we had wanted to give the car to both the artiste of the year and the discovery of the year but due to sponsorship deficiencies we were only able to afford the car for the ultimate winner. This time too, we had issues so what we want to do is to rather shift the post by giving the car to the new artiste of the year. We hope that in the near future, we would be able to give away two cars to the artiste of the year and the new artiste of the year”.

This move has really raised eyebrows as some industry people have speculated that judging from popularity vote, the artiste likely to win the ultimate award is one musician having issues with Charterhouse therefore swerving him with the car at this time.
