Samini Presents The Obimbra Foundation

As the nation grapples with the worrying increase in domestic abuse cases, the plight of the victimized is largely overlooked.

Under such conditions, as members of our community, their contributions to society at large are gravely handicapped as they succumb to their abusers.

Fueled by compassion and a need for them to never be left behind, the Obimbra Foundation is poised to be the voice of the voiceless and spearhead the campaign against domestic abuse through initiatives to be implemented in Ghana.

The Obimbra Foundation, built upon the Akan word “Obimbra”, meaning a cry for help, is an initiative by legendary award winning Ghanaian Reggae and Dancehall artiste, Emmanuel Andrews Samini (SAMINI).

Vodafone’s “Ahotor Bundle” – A Mobile Money Game Changer

Vodafone Ghana has just decided to create a revolution in the mobile money space in the country. This follows the launch of arguably the most innovative product by its Vodafone Cash team to offer convenience and ease for all customers.

Starting today, all customers of its Vodafone Cash mobile money offering have been empowered to conduct unlimited transactions on the platform for only GHS3 per month. The “Ahotor bundle”, as it is called, is a response to peculiar needs of customers in the ever-changing mobile money market space.

Vodafone Ghana says the introduction of the “Ahotor Bundle” is a direct response to a desire by customers and businesses to do more on the Vodafone network in a flexible manner whilst saving on cost.

The transition towards a cash-lite society is fast becoming mainstay in many African economies; not least Ghana, where almost all the telecom companies are operating mobile money platforms. In an economy with only 30% of the bankable population possessing bank accounts, the mobile money option has become a major alternative to the 70% of the population that are financially-excluded.

Since the introduction of its mobile money platform some two years ago, Vodafone Ghana has not hidden its intention of playing a leading role in igniting Ghana’s digital revolution. Chief Executive, Yolanda Cuba has been clear that the company will continue to deploy its strength as a technology company to promote inclusion in the mainstream financial services.

Ghanaian Moviemakers Overusing Drones In Their Movies – Golden Movie Awards Jury

The grand jury of the Golden Movie Awards is not happy with most Ghanaian movie makers after sitting for days to watch about 200 movies submitted for this year’s nominations.

The team during a press interaction at Aqua Safari in the Volta Region last week bemoaned filmmakers for several mistakes they commit when working on their projects. Chris-Vincent Agyapong, a member of the jury who resides in the U.K speaking at the press conference opined that most Ghanaian filmmakers are overusing drones in movies. According to him, several drone shots in most Ghanaian movies submitted did not correlate with the story line so he cannot fathom why directors would always want to add such scenes.

He stated without mincing words that most drone shots in Ghanaian movies do not make sense but filmmakers think they are adding those scenes for viewers to enjoy their works.

The Grand Jury of the prestigious Golden Movie Awards (GMA), an award scheme aimed at celebrating and honoring excellence in Africa’s growing film industry, met with a section of the Ghanaian Press at the Aqua Safari resort in Ada earlier today, April 21st, 2018.

It is chaired by the President of the Jury, Ms. Mildred Okwo, an acclaimed Nigerian film director and producer.

The spokesperson for the jury, Mr. Ken Addy, said that this year has seen the submission of some amazing films. However, some of the films had been below expectation.

He further added that some of the films submitted for screening failed to follow some of the Golden Movie Awards’ established rules and regulations, for instance, the requirement for sub-titles, where the dialogue is not in English. Unfortunately, such films were automatically disqualified by the sitting jury.
