Ghanaian Moviemakers Overusing Drones In Their Movies – Golden Movie Awards Jury

The grand jury of the Golden Movie Awards is not happy with most Ghanaian movie makers after sitting for days to watch about 200 movies submitted for this year’s nominations.

The team during a press interaction at Aqua Safari in the Volta Region last week bemoaned filmmakers for several mistakes they commit when working on their projects. Chris-Vincent Agyapong, a member of the jury who resides in the U.K speaking at the press conference opined that most Ghanaian filmmakers are overusing drones in movies. According to him, several drone shots in most Ghanaian movies submitted did not correlate with the story line so he cannot fathom why directors would always want to add such scenes.

He stated without mincing words that most drone shots in Ghanaian movies do not make sense but filmmakers think they are adding those scenes for viewers to enjoy their works.

“The movies that did not make it to this year’s awards is not just Kumawood, the so-called Ghallywood were as worst as Kumawood. We have seen several drone shots which are not relevant in the scene we are watching. People will be in their rooms and you will see drones flying showing us buildings at Trassaco. We don’t buy movies to watch beautiful places else we would have gone to Dubai.

We need to have some relevace with the scenes. If you are moving from one scene to the other, let it connect but don’t take a drone shot of the Circle interchange and show it to us. For what? It does not add any value to the show and this is something that almost every Ghanaian movie maker is doing.  It is as though somebody shoots the drone shots and they buy it from him” Chris-Vincent passionately said.

The 2018 GMA jury is made up of esteemed film directors, producers, film critics, writers and key industry players– a mixed and extensively knowledgeable team selected from Nigeria, Ghana, Burkina Faso and the United Kingdom.

The jury’s screening started on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, and ends on Monday, April 23, 2018.

The Golden Movie Awards ceremony will be held on June 2, 2018, at the Movenpick Hotel in Accra.

The award scheme is aimed at celebrating and honoring excellence in Africa’s growing film industry.
