WIYAALA’S DJIMBA WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL BACK AGAIN IN 2017

Energetic Wiyaala never seems to stand still! Now, she’s telling the world that the second edition of the Djimba World Music Festival is slated for the 23rd December at InService, Wa in the Upper West Region of Ghana.

Last year, the bubbly singer was so enthused about promoting music and creative arts in her region, she started the Festival which she promised would be an annual opportunity for Upper West artists to showcase their talents.

This year, the festival will feature Koliko playing Atongo Zimba, one of Ghana’s biggest music exports, and Prince Kareem aka Jah Bone, who is popular for his fusion of melodic traditional and reggae rhythms.

Also on the bill, are the evergreen Taarza Tailor (reputed to have a wife in every village), a mesmerising dancer and singing story teller. They will be joined by HadgiMuzik Wachiebine an award-winning dancehall artist from Tumu.

Representing the ladies will be the lovely songstress Sumtaana Shee Rap from Nandom who is known for her hit song “Disco”, an intriguing pot-pourri of Afropop and rap.

DUTCH PRIME MINISTER PAYS OFFICIAL VISIT TO GHANA

Dutch Prime Minister Mr. Mark Rutte is in Accra for a two-day visit from 29th - 30th November, 2017.

With this visit, the first of a Dutch Prime Minister to Ghana, Mr Rutte wants to reaffirm and further strengthen the excellent relations between the two countries.

His visit coincides with that of the French President Emmanuel Macron to Ghana. The two leaders agreed to visit Ghana together, in the aftermath of the AU-EU summit in Abidjan. 

H.E. President Nana Akufo-Addo will host a lunch for President Macron and Prime Minister Rutte. Both European leaders will also meet with young Ghanaian entrepreneurs, whom have benefitted from startup accelerator programs.

TRESOR Announced As A High Level Influencer For The LuQuLuQu Campaign

Multi-award winning singer, songwriter and producer, TRESOR, will be announced as a High Level Influencer (HLI) for the LuQuLuQu campaign this evening at the launch event at the Four Seasons Hotel, Westcliff. The LuQuLuQu campaign is an initiative of the UN Refugee Agency.

TRESOR’s role as an HLI will include amongst others the advocacy of the struggles and challenges faced by refugees. Johnson & Johnson, Partners Announce First Efficacy Study For Investigational Mosaic HIV-1 Preventive Vaccine

On the eve of World AIDS Day (December 1) Johnson & Johnson announced that its Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies together with a consortium of global partners have initiated the first efficacy study for an investigational mosaic HIV-1 preventive vaccine.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and National Institutes of Health are joining forces with Johnson & Johnson to advance the potential prevention option, which is designed to be a “global vaccine” that could prevent a wide range of viral strains responsible for the HIV pandemic. 

“Developing a vaccine against HIV is a top priority and our best hope for a world without AIDS. Finding an effective HIV vaccine to protect people at risk has been a major scientific challenge, but today there is new optimism that we can get there,” said Paul Stoffels, M.D., Chief Scientific Officer, Johnson & Johnson.

Apostle Amoako Atta Was Misquoted On Homosexuality - PRO

The Media liaison officer of Parliament Chapel International (formerly Freedom Chapel), McLord Ice said the founder and leader of the church; Apostle Amoako Atta could never have referred to respected Ghanaian pastors as homosexuals.

His comments came at the heels of a publication on www.yen.com under the headline “Many Respected Ghanaian ‘men of God’ Are Homosexuals – Apostle Amoako Atta” which suggests that ‘The founder and leader of Freedom Chapel International, Apostle Amoako Atta has revealed that there are many respected Ghanaian pastors who are homosexuals.’

The said story also said that the Apostle indicated that the involvement of these influential ‘Men of God’ is even making it difficult for Ghana to fight against the sexual orientation as a country.

But, McLord Ice who spoke to this journalist over the issue indicated that Apostle Francis Amoako Atta is one man of God who has respect for every other men of God and that he will not by any chance speak against them in such manner.

WELCOME HOME! 2017 Miss Universe Ghana Ruth Quarshie Gets Rousing Welcome

Ghana’s representative at this year’s Miss Universe, Ruth Quarshie, has returned home to a rousing welcome.

Miss Quarshie arrived in Accra on Tuesday evening in the company of pageant Director and CEO OF MALZ Promotions, Menaye Donkor.

Friends, family and some media men were on hand to receive her.

Quarshie earned an appreciable Top 16 place at the world finals, qualifying from the Africa and Asia zone to join 15 others including Miss South Africa who eventually won.

The Top 16 achievement was Ghana’s best showing (in terms of position) since 1999 when Akuba Cudjoe qualified as a Top 10 finalist. Ghana’s other achievement was in 2006 when Angela Asare was named Miss Congeniality even though she didn’t make the list of finalists.

Ruth Quarshie is a graduate of the University of Ghana Business School. She won the national pageant in Accra in September this year.

The Miss Universe Organization is run by women for women, and built on a foundation of inclusion which continues to be a celebration of diversity. Annually, nearly ten thousand young women participate in the Miss Universe Pageant events.

South Africa’s Ladysmith Black Mambazo Gets Two Grammy Awards Nominations

Yes, Africa was not left out of the just announced nominations for the 2018 Grammy Awards. Celebrated South African choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo has scooped two nominations ahead of the 2018 awards.

The group were nominated in the Best World Music Album category for their album Shaka Zulu Revisited: 30th Anniversary Celebration. 

The album is a reworked version of the group’s 1988 Grammy award-winning Best Traditional Folk Album.

Photos : Dutch Minister Of Foreign Trade And Development Cooperation Visits Ghana

The Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation,  Ms Sigrid Kaag arrived in Ghana on Monday, November 27th,  for a one-day visit.

Since her taking office some weeks ago, Ghana is the first African country she visits.

The purpose of this visit is to the reaffirm and further strengthen the excellent relations between the two countries whose shared history dates back centuries.

Gradually, the focus has shifted from development cooperation to trade and investments, initiated by the Dutch “From Aid to Trade” Agenda. 

This aligns strongly with the Ghana beyond Aid Agenda, of the government of Ghana.  Empowerment of the private sector and entrepreneurship are considered to be the main engine for economic growth.  Minister Kaag emphasized that this focus is “Not only good for Ghana, but also provides opportunities for Dutch companies and investors” .

Jay-Z And Kendrick Lamar Lead Nominations For 2018 Grammy Awards

The nominees for the 60th Grammy Awards have been announced.

These awards celebrate recording artists and the music they released between 1 October 2016 and 30 September 2017. Next year, the ceremony returns to New York City’s Madison Square Garden.

Taking place on 28 January, music’s biggest night will be hosted by James Corden host of The Late Late Show on M-net. The Ghanaian fans of the annual Grammy Awards can watch the awards live and in HD on DStv in January 2018.

Tic Tac Live In Aayalolo Busses From Monday

Music icon, Tic Tac  would be seen in Aayalolo busses entertaining and sharing souvenirs to passengers in a novelty starting from Monday, December 4.

The initiative is to create awareness ahead of the release of Tic Tac’s 7th album and mark One Year Anniversary of Aayalolo since it commenced operations.

This will see passengers on board the busses with Tic Tac, get free Run Energy drink, CDs, and other Aayalolo souvenirs amongst others.

Additionally, Tic Tac’s new songs and videos would be played for him entertain as well as interact with others in the bus.

CILT Presents Policy Recommendations To Government

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) has indicated that  for government to carry out excellent road expansion projects throughout the country as per its manifesto pledge, it must consider the dualization of all major highways.

CILT said government must take keen consideration of this so as to avoid head-on collisions on these major roads and reduce its effects on the economy.

The President of CILT-Ghana, Ebo Hammond said this when the Institute’s Council presented some policy recommendations to the Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Anthony Abayifaa Karbo at the ministry, yesterday.

Ebo Hammond indicated that key highways including Elubo-Takoradi-Cape Coast-Accra-Aflao and Accra-Kumasi-Tamale-Paga need consideration since they are the key road-spine of the country.

Ebony Threatens To Boycott Takoradi Technical University Events

According to reports from close sources of Dancehall diva Ebony, the singer has threatened to boycott further invitations from the institution due to (yet again) another act of unprofessionalism by their Entertainment committee.

Ebony, who performed alongside King Promise at the 2nd TTU SRC Akwaaba Week Artist Night has been reported fed-up with the level of unprofessionalism on the part of the student body leading her to cut ties with the institution who once left her distressed during their GNUPS Night months ago.

By the kind courtesy of South African Tourism West Africa, I recently spent a week in South Africa, three nights in one of South Africa’s hidden treasures, a small town by name Clarens. 

I was part of about thirty players within the tourism industry and media practitioners from Ghana and Nigeria for the 2017 South Africa Specialist experience.

Clarens is situated in the foothills of the Maluti Mountains in the Free State province of South Africa and nicknamed the “Jewel of the Eastern Free State”. Established in 1912, it is named after the town of Clarens in Switzerland where exiled and former South African president, Paul Kruger, spent his last days. Clarens can be found 336 kilometres away from Johannesburg and about three hours by road.

Joeslyn Dumas Talks About Growing Pains During / After Pregnancy With Stephanie Benson And Apolline Attripoe

For some it’s the easiest thing in the world but for Joselyn Dumas, going nude on camera is something that would be very difficult for her to do.

According to the Ghanaian actress, television personality and film producer, whilst she feels very comfortable about her body and how it looks, she cannot display it in public for the world to see.

Joselyn was speaking with singer Stephanie Benson and Apolline Attipoe on the latest episode of her new reality talk show, Keeping It Real with Joselyn Dumas.

Dumas and her two guests were discussing Stephanie Benson’s much talked about see through dress to the 2017 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, a dress which the actress said she could never wear in a million years.

“I would mind taking off my clothes right here. I wouldn’t be able to do that, but to each his own.” Dumas said.

“I’m comfortable in my skin, the people that would have to see my body would see it. There are different levels of comfort and confidence. …the level of my confidence is you could probably come to my house and I’ll be walking around naked, but I wouldn’t do it freely [in public].” she said.

Dumas added that she could not wear anything like what Benson wore on that night, and that if she did she would simply take a picture with it and go to bed without going out.

UK BASED GHANAIAN AFRO POP ARTIST TO STORM GHANA FOR HER MEDIA TOUR

UK based Ghanaian afro pop artist has announced that she would be storming Ghana for her media tour soon.

Rachel Arhin, known by the stage name Rashelle Blue, is a UK-based singer/songwriter, commercial model, multi-genre artiste, performer and aspiring actress.

The UK Afro Pop Sweetheart has gained a share of musical experience internationally and is a rising star in the UK afro-pop scene.

UN Migration Agency Appoints Ghanaian Rapper As Goodwill Ambassador To Promote Safe Migration

Ghanaian rapper and songwriter, Kofi Kinaata, has become IOM, the UN Migration Agency’s first Goodwill Ambassador to promote safe migration in Ghana.

He will be supporting IOM’s advocacy and fundraising efforts, including educating young Ghanaians about the dangers associated with the journey across the Sahara Desert and the Mediterranean Sea to reach North Africa and Europe.

Kinaata will support IOM Ghana’s Aware Migrants Information Campaign through the release of a new song aimed at encouraging Ghanaian youth to value their lives and not take unnecessary risks in chasing illusionary greener pastures. The Aware Migrants Information Campaign is part of the Engaging West African Communities (EWAC) project funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.

I Am Disappointed In Shatta Wale For Calling Himself A Naija Boy - DKB

Social media was set ablaze last week when controversial Dancehall act Shatta Wale made certain statements that didn’t sit well with the entire Nigerian population.

In his statement, the “Taking Over’ hit maker said he doesn’t see Nigerian darling boy Wizkid as a superstar. As a result of this, social media was lit with massive trolling from Nigerians to dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale.

In light of the mishaps, Shatta Wale has released a number of songs standing his ground by defending his statements and cementing his claims. His recent tweet concerning the “beef” between himself and the entire Nigerian population, he was captured to written boldly “I Be Naija Boy”.

Comedy King DKB, who has being nominated for People’s celebrity comedian of the year, has expressed his disappointment at Shatta Wale for calling himself a Naija Boy. In a tweet the comedian said “So now @shattawalegh deny we Ghanaians to call himself a Naija boy? This is betrayal…I’m very disappointed”

CCI France Ghana Organise Business Security Management For Businesses

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry France Ghana organised a conference on Business Security Management on Thursday 9th November at the Labadi Beach Hotel.

The conference which was attended by 60 professionals from Corporate Ghana was organised with the objective of sharing advanced information to ensure maximum security of businesses.

The event began with a presentation by the Managing Director of Saladin Security who shared some constituents of internal fraud such as false invoicing and contract manipulation. Practical solutions, control measures and how to deter recurrence were then given.

He also spoke on cyber fraud which he described as a growing menace in Ghana with the steady rise in incidents stating that one of the causes is lack of suitable training for staff. He advised participants to develop a proactive approach to security and conduct due diligence on staff in key positions.

MEST Launches Incubator Spaces In Lagos & Cape Town!

There's an East African version of popular reality TV show Big Brother "God Father East Africa" and the 2018 Auditions will kick off soon.

This will be the very first East Africa Big Brother reality TV show, yes one house, one prize and East Africans competing for millions of cash.

The God father East Africa will be watched on either NTV Kenya or Citizen TV Kenya in the early months of 2018.

According to the producers of the show, the auditions are to be carried our in Nairobi, Kigali, Kampala and Dar es salaam respectively for all applicants from the four East African countries.

Fast rising Ghanaian rapper, Michael Kafui Gamos, known by his stage name, Stargo is set to perform at the fourth edition of the annual BAR concert.

The event which is headlined by rap star, singer and producer, E.L will take place on November 25, 6pm at Alliance Francaise, Accra.

Organized for mainly Hip-Hop fans, the event will see an A-List cast of artists who are expected to dazzle, party and connect with the audience.

GB INTERACTIVE’S UNTAMED ENERGY CONCERT POSTPONED

The George Britton Interactive (GB) team as part of its fifth year anniversary commemoration launched a stern campaign on drug abuse with music as the front-runner knowing very well the impact music can make in changing the attitudes of our youth, the decision to embark on this campaign came at the back of a news report that predicted that “about 70% of the youth in Ghana are at the risk of engaging in drug abuse for divers reasons”.

The month long campaign which included media tours, celebrity talks on drug abuse – how to seek help and where to get help was scheduled for end of November with a grand event on the 25th of November 2017 which was to be headlined by shatta wale at the Tema sports stadium has been postponed.

This decision was arrived at by the team in a meeting due to the technicalities the team needed to deal with. OTUMFUO AND AGROECOM TRAINS 4,946 SCHOOL CHILDREN IN ICT

Four thousand, nine hundred and forty-six (4,946) pupils in eight districts in the Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions of Ghana, have benefited from free computer training lessons in the past three months.

This training initiative was undertaken by the Otumfuo-Agroecom Mobile Library Project (OAMLP), a subsidiary of the Otumfuo Charity Foundation in collaboration with Agroecom Ghana Ltd, a cocoa buying company.

Among its aims are to ensure that less fortunate children in deprived communities have the same learning conditions as other children in the cities and urban areas. It also serves to encourage the habit of reading and the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) among basic school pupils.

The beneficiary districts include Sekyere North, Bekwai Municipality, Atwima Mponua, Bibaini-Anwhiaso-Bekwai, Bosomtwe, Offinso Municipality, New Edubaise and Goaso district.
