Celebrity Column : A Piece Of Peace With Peace Hyde - New Year! New Focus

Hello and welcome to a piece of peace, your weekly dose of motivation and inspiration. This week I will like to share with you on the topic, “New year, New Focus.” Another year is finally over and what an amazing thing it is to enter the New Year with all of you.

This week was my weekly catch up with my young faith builder girls. They are a group of young students between the ages of 15 to 18 that I mentor.

The topic of conversation for today was people’s opinions. Should they matter? To what extent do they matter and can we ever please everybody. One of the girls had a little bit of a dilemma.

She was friends with a girl who was known amongst their immediate group to be a bit loose with her morals. She overheard a group of students talking and they said some pretty negative things about her as a result of her friendship with this girl.

It made her really sad and she did not know what to do. The things she heard was quite hurtful and a different friend confirmed to her that most of the students were now unanimously referring to her in that same regard. She was traumatised.

She considered cutting off her friend whom she had known all her life. But the question remained, will the opinions change once she did that.

It is difficult to be the victim of another person’s reputation. Unfortunately you are the company you keep and as much as we may have friends that we love and we care about, the natural tendency of society is to try and define everything we see. By default, if we see you standing next to a drug dealer for long enough, then you are also considered as a drug dealer.

It is a bit harsh and unfair but that is the reality on the ground. It goes without saying, you are the company you keep, but more importantly, I wanted to address the issue with people’s opinions. We cannot avoid people having an opinion about who we are.

Sometimes those opinions can be very hurtful. Those who are not close to us seldom see our true reflection of ourselves, and as a result, we are open to a lot of different interpretations by various people in different circles.

The important thing to note is that people will always talk whether you are doing bad or good, saved or sinner, whether it’s a lie or the truth. It’s all about you and knowing who you are and what you stand for! Don’t let anybody validate or dictate your happiness because at the end of the day you have to live with a lie with your decisions and choices.

Do what’s best for you and what benefits your life in all aspects. Live your life trying to please others and I promise it wont be worth it. You only have one life and now is the time to make the most of it. Tap into the dream and achieve it no matter what the cost is! This is your year.  No matter what you do, always be your self because everyone else is taken.

Much Love,

Peace Hyde.
