Elizabeth Patterson, winner of Vlisco woman of the year award, founded the ‘Girl’s Education Initiative of Ghana’ in 2013 after several experiences in Ghana where she saw the disparity in educational access for girls.
The initiative seeks to help provide academic and financial support for girls and applicants with special needs so that they can access higher education and professional opportunities.
The initiative called on Media Personality and the newly appointed Forbes West Africa correspondent Peace Hyde, to share on her experiences dealing with Dyslexia. The Aim Higher Africa Founder encouraged the young girls to keep working hard and shared tips on how to cope with the learning condition.
In her session, she explained that Dyslexia did not mean a lack of intelligence and should not be seen as a disability. She explained that despite her being diagnosed with the condition earlier on in university, she along with a large number of successful people, has gone on to achieve key mile stones in her life and they can also do the same.
