A Piece of Peace: A Leap Of Faith

Hello and welcome to a piece of peace, your weekly dose of motivation and inspiration. This week, I would like to share on the topic of “A leap of faith”

As I keep rehashing quite often in my posts, the fear of failure is something that has a firm hold on all of us. At one point or the other, we have all come to that uncomfortable realization that, the thing we truly want to do, might just not work out. And there are several reasons to support this realization. Some of those reasons are so profound and concrete that it is just simply difficult to ignore.

After all you are a rational person and as a rational being, you need to make clear well thought out logical decisions. You are intelligent enough to see the pitfalls in your dream before you embark on that journey so it would simply be madness to actually continue. You see there are so many good reasons we give ourselves why we are not taking that leap of faith. The power of fear is that, it not only stops you from actually taking an action, it also helps you to rationalize with that decision and creates a climate where you truly believe you have made the right decision.

Then follows the onslaught of regret when we see that same idea which you convinced yourself was impossible to execute, become the success story of someone who was bold enough to do it in spite of all the barriers you allowed to stop you.
Now what happens when even though our dream might seem unthinkable, we still overcome that fear and take a leap of faith? Let me just give you two brief examples of what happens. Hillary Clinton was excited about the space program when she was a little girl and wrote to the men running it, but she claims NASA sent back a hard-to-swallow letter.

The message was simple: “We don’t take women.” So, instead, she became the U.S. Secretary of State and arguably the most powerful woman in the United States. Oprah Winfrey was born the child of a teenage mother and never knew for certain whom her father was.

Her family was deeply impoverished and Oprah spent several years of her life wearing clothes made from potato sacks. Growing up in the inner city, her situation was so dire that her mom put one of her sisters up for adoption to lessen the family’s expenses while trying to survive on welfare. Oprah was sexually abused as a child, ran away from home at 13, and was pregnant by 14.

Her mother sent her away to live with the man she believed was her biological father and who took her education very seriously. Eventually Oprah went on to host her famous talk show, the ownership of which allowed her to start her own television studio. In 2004, she became the first black female billionaire.

Let me just ask one very simple question, what excuse are you allowing fear to use to hold you back? The only way you can truly achieve your fullest potential is by pursuing that burning passion you have and who knows where that might take you. You are all that stands between you and your destiny. The naysayers will always do what they do best.

They will criticise you, insult you and laugh at you but the most important thing to remember is that, in the end, they will be the ones also telling people what an amazing person you are. Do not let people’s opinion of you reflect the decisions you make for your future.

Take the leap of faith today and do the unthinkable. Chase that dream, believe me it will absolutely be worth it in the end and no matter what you do, always remember to be yourself, because everyone else is taken.

Much Love,
