For the first time in the history of the Ghana DJ Awards, founder, Merqury Quaye has taken a swipe at Citti FM presenter/DJ Armani for questioning the outcome of the 2015 Ghana DJ Awards on the lines of popularity.
In a publication by the Daily Guide, DJ Armani is reported to have questioned why DJs he did not know were announced winners at the 2015 Ghaa DJ Awards. “Best Club MC of the Year went to DJ Apiscola from Crisberrys. First of all, where is Crisberrys and who is DJ Apiscola? If he says he is a DJ, how can he win Club MC of the Year, like seriously? What happened to Commotion, what happened to MC Coaches…? Best International Ghanaian DJ, DJ Bretuoba, who is he? …Best Mobile DJ of the Year, DJ Collins, you know the name Collins?, Armani asked on his radio show.
In response, Merqury Quaye said, “No disrespect, because I’m a fan, but DJ Armani’s questions are below the line. He seems to be out of touch with the DJ culture in Ghana. The fact that [DJ Armani] doesn’t know the name DJ Collins doesn’t mean his hard work doesn’t deserve recognition”.
"How many DJs do you know in Ghana? Should DJs be recognized only if you know them?”, Merqury asked Armani.
“DJ Apiscola? No DJ called Apiscola was nominated nor awarded. MC Apiscola was awarded in the Club MC category. Get your facts right. Secondly, the fact that he does not know where Crisberry is located does not make it a blunder to award a hardworking MC whose vibes and chemistry with DJs keep people partying in a club from 10pm till 7am, from there.”In a publication by the Daily Guide, DJ Armani is reported to have questioned why DJs he did not know were announced winners at the 2015 Ghaa DJ Awards. “Best Club MC of the Year went to DJ Apiscola from Crisberrys. “The Ghana DJ Awards is not a popularity contest”, Merqury indicated. Its about skills, entertainment, it’s about innovation, hard work and observation of ethics of the art, regardless your creed, sex, residence, color or popularity”.
“Armani must come again after doing some research about how these DJs are affecting the lives of Ghanaians through the art of Disc Jockeying”, Merqury said.
The third Annual Ghana DJ Awards was held on February 21st at the main Foyer of the Accra International Conerence Centre with exciting performances by three-time DMC UK Champion, DJ Kofi, DJ Andy Dosty, Okyeame Kwame, Vybrant Faya, AK Songstress, DJ Bass and Miray, amongst others.
