Telecommunications giant, Vodafone Ghana, has congratulated Madam Alimatu Boakye for emerging as Best Female Farmer at this year’s National Farmers Day celebrations held in the Northern Region.
Alimatu Boakye, among other prizes, received 10, 000 cash prize, a Vodafone tablet and Vodafone Farmers’ Club SIMs with 12 months airtime and data, as well as free access to farmers’ helpline and useful information on crop and agric.
Speaking to the media after the presentation, Enterprise Business Unit Director at Vodafone Ghana, Angela Mensah Poku, said the award was in line with Vodafone’s continuous commitment to empower females in agriculture.
‘’Women play a significant role in agricultural development and it’s therefore important that we find ways to encourage and strengthen their contributions. Supporting the Best Female Farmer is one of the many ways we are championing this agenda at Vodafone. Our Farmers’ Club initiative, also continues to connect farms, agribusinesses and rural communities to drive productivity, profitability and innovation.

This initiative provides farmers with access to relevant information on improved farming practices, crop information, prices of commodities and expert advice, in their preferred language.’’
She added that Vodafone in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, will from next year, reward and celebrate farmers who among other things use innovative and new technology in their operations. The category, to be titled “National Digital Farmer of the Year”, will encourage and drive innovation within the sector.
Madam Alimatu Boakye, thanked Vodafone Ghana for recognizing her efforts and pledged to work even harder in the years ahead.
