Musician Omanhene Pozo DEAD

The death is reported of musician Omanhene Pozo.

A colleague and former group member during their Nananom days, Barima Sydney, confirmed the news Wednesday morning.

Pozo battled what was believed to be a brain tumor and was on admission at the 37 Military Hospital for a while before his passing Wednesday.

Despite being aided by some associates and working colleagues including the Ghana music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) while at the hospital, it was not enough to defray the 30, 000 cedis being required for a possible surgery.

An original member of the hiplife trio Nananom which included Sydney and the only female Jyoti Chandler, they achieved enormous success in the 90s and early 2000s cementing their authority on the local music landscape, particularly when hiplife took off as a genre.
Pozo would later break away to become a solo artiste. He achieved a fairly impressive mainstream success and had hits.

Collaborations and reworking some old highlife songs such as Alhaji K Frimpong’s ‘Kyenkyen Bi Adi Meawu’ endeared him to a decent following. He also worked with veterans C.K Mann and Awurama Badu.
