AFUA HIRSCH AND RODNEY HINDS TO HOST LITERACY DRIVE CHARITY BALL

The Literacy Drive Charity Ball – a philanthropic and glamorous black-tie event, is scheduled to take place on Saturday the 6th of February 2015, at the luxurious Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel in London, SW1X 9PY, from 6:30pm to 1am. 

The Charity ball will boast two of the finest anchors as its hosts; Sky News Correspondent Afua Hirsch and Sports and Features Editor of the Voice Newspaper – Mr Rodney Hinds

Afua Hirsch is the Social Affairs Editor and presenter at international broadcaster Sky News. She worked with the Guardian newspaper in 2008 and was appointed as the paper’s first West Africa Correspondent in 2014.  Afua has been at the forefront of ground breaking news ranging from illegal Chinese gold mining in Ghana, to human rights acts and trials of terrorist suspects. Afua has an extensive career background including her work as a barrister, in criminal defence, public and international law. 

She is also a seasoned host, co-hosting events such as: the prestigious GUBA 2015 Awards ceremony, a mayoral debate for the coming London Mayor Election, and events for the charities she supports, including the Essien Foundation and Africans Unite Against Child Abuse. She will add sophistication and professionalism alongside her co-host on the night.

Rodney Hinds
Rodney Hinds is the Sports and Features Editor of the UK’s biggest selling black Newspaper- The Voice. Rodney began his writing career in 1999 as the co-author of ‘Black Pearls - an A-Z of Black Footballers in the English Game’. In recent times Rodney has penned his second book ‘Black Lions – The Story of Black Footballers in England.’ 

His contribution to sports journalism was recognised when he won the Black Plus+ ‘Best Print Journalist’ and Victoria Mutual ‘Services to Cricket’ awards.
Having launched his television career on BBC Breakfast Time, Rodney has also contributed and appeared on various sporting documentaries on BBC3, BBC2, Sky News and many more. 

Among his big name interviews are Viv Richards, Lennox Lewis, Kobe Bryant, Thierry Henry and Jessica Ennis to name a few. 

As well as writing, Hinds is also a motivational and passionate public speaker. Hinds was the first role model for the East Enders Academy, an organisation which takes inspirational men in to schools in order to boost the aspiration of young people.

Organised by Promoting Global Learning (PGL), Universal Learning Solutions (ULS) and The Voice Newspaper, the Literacy Drive Charity Ball is being held to raise funds to establish a Centre of Excellence in Ghana and to fund Mobile Library Vans, Training and Conference facilities.
