VIASAT1 TO TURN UP HOLIDAYS WITH JIGWE AWARDS, CHRISTMAS PLAY AND NEW TV SERIES

Viasat1 Brodcasting G. Limited has announced exciting programming for the Christmas and New Year holiday season. Key among them is the annual Viasat1 Jigwe Christmas Play which is focused on bringing out the lighter side of the biblical Christmas story. This year’s Christmas play will be the third since its inception in 2013.

Last year’s play broke the internet with #JigweXmasPlay trending for hours on Twitter and got Facebook buzzing during and after the play. The LIVE theatrical performance by celebrities and showbiz icons, not necessarily movie stars, is interwoven with several choral music interludes from a choir.

Programmes Manager of Viasat1, Anthony Mintah Jr. says: “2015 has been an exciting year for us and for our fans as well, we want to end it on a remarkable note as always. The main focus of the Christmas play is to treat viewers to a memorable time of their lives while reliving the period before, during and immediately after the birth of Jesus Christ.

The most interesting thing about the Christmas play is that the actors are given some awkward roles that will bring the best or worst of their knowledge of the Christmas story.

“Our loyal fans and viewers who watched previous plays will definitely not want to miss this year’s edition. We have upped our list of actors who will feature,” Mr. Mintah assured.

Last year’s Christmas play featured Deborah Vanessa as Angel Gabriella, Foster Romanus, DKB, Majid Michel, and Funny Face were the Wise Men and Shepherds. Veteran actor Kofi Adjorlolo gave viewers a great time with his role as King Herod. James Gardiner played the role of Jesus’ father, Joseph, while the roles of Joseph’s mother and father were played by veteran musicians, Paulina Oduro and Ben Brako.

The 2015 edition of Jigwe Awards will be held on Wednesday, 23rd December at the Viasat1 studio in Labone. It will precede the Christmas Play as it did last year. Hip hop artiste Teephlow has already been confirmed by organisers of the event to perform, as well as Highlife legend, Ben Brako. A host of top Ghanaian celebrities have also confirmed their participation of the event, which is expected to be the most talked about event to round-up the year.

Meanwhile, Viasat1 will roll out a new series, Direct Flight, on Tuesday 22nd December at 6 p.m. Direct Flight is an Angolan and Portuguese series that tells the story of four flight attendants who spend so much time on flights midair. Their biggest hurdle comes when they decide to get married.

How difficult or easy will it be for them? Direct Flight will air at 6:00 p.m. from Monday to Thursday, replacing Behind Closed Doors. Viewers should also look forward to exciting movies every weekday at 1:00pm starting Christmas day through to 2nd January, 2016.

Viasat1 wishes all our viewers and fans happy holidays!
