Multichoice Ghana and M-Net (West) recently organized a forum to meet with stakeholders from the Ghanaian content producing industry.
The event which was held in Accra was attended by representatives of the Ghanaian movie, music and TV industry and members of the country’s film and television regulatory agencies.
At the Forum, Mr. Efosa Aiyevbomwan, the Head of Public Relations & Talent Lead for Africa Magic announced that the Africa magic had launched a dedicated 4 hour block of Ghanaian content on AfricaMagic World (DStv Channel 155 and GOtv Channel 10). “the block is currently running old content we acquired from producers whilst we test the channel and we will premiere newer content in November to launch the Ghana block, with this in mind we would encourage all content providers to submit their content, nobody can showcase Ghana as best as you can”, stated Mr. Aiyevbomwan.
Speaking on the same issue, the General Manager, Multichoice Ghana, Mr. Cecil Sunkwa-Mills said “We are delighted with the addition of the Ghana block and in time we look forward to seeing it as a standalone channel; this will be possible if we continue to produce and send in content, both movies and music.

We are aware of the various challenges plaguing the production industry, however we do not want this to be the primary reason why we lose out on several awards at events like AMVCA but without them, opportunities like these will be lost on us.
The Ghana block needs content – music, movies, shows, and we must provide them”. He also confirmed the establishment of an Africa Magic desk and representative at the Multichoice office to ensure efficient liaison between stakeholders and Africa Magic and to assist with the acquisition and onward transmission of content from Ghana. In the meantime he advised producers to contact the PR department of the Multichoice Ghana office in order to drop of their content for consideration for the block
The event provided a platform for the various stakeholders to discuss the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards and the obvious lack of Ghanaian winners, on this, Mr. Sunkwa Mills mentioned that “Whenever Ghana submits a lot of entries we do win, for instance when Jackie Appiah won Best Actress in Drama, Perfect Picture by Shirley Frimpong- Manso, or when The Contract picked the coveted Best Movie Award for 2013, there is no winning without entries”.
Mr. Aiyevbomwan took the guests through the submission process, categories and guidelines for the awards which are available on www.africamagic.tv. He mentioned that the awards had 25 categories; and that 10 of those categories are judged by the viewers and that he hoped Ghanaians would beat the deadline of 30th October 2015
