The maiden edition of the annual Ghana Dance Festival (GDF) has been launched and a lot of interesting programs have been outlined by the organisers as the country gears up for the  celebration of the art of dance in a very special way.

The launch which took place at the Silver Lounge inside the Accra Mall last Thursday saw a number of key stakeholders in the country's art industry present. They included but not limited to the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Hon. Dzifa Ablah Gomashie and Lecturer at the Dance Department of UG-Legon Nana Bafour Awuah Kyeremanteng.

It saw exciting performances from the Divinity Blazers, Shebre Dance Group, Apex Ballroom and 4 Bent Dance Crew whose respective dance act gave guests what to expect when the actual festival begins.

The 3-month-long fete will start from August 1 to October 31, 2015 with interesting activities fixed for selected days on the event calendar.

The CEO of CA-IM, Mr. Robert Klah who acknowledged that Hon. Dzifa has already given a thumbs up noted the celebration will go a long way to developing the dance industry in Ghana.

"Dance is a part of our everyday life, so visible and yet uncelebrated. With the festival we wish to celebrate dance, bring together all dancers under one umbrella to address our needs career wise, and to be able to package our craft well to earn a good living, while selling our culture to the rest of the world," he stated.

“We want to be able to leave a legacy that continues to support the dance industry. For this reason we have created a dance TV program called Dancetera, designed to address anything and everything dance in and out of Ghana,” he added.

The Deputy Minister of Culture, Tourism and Creative Arts Mrs. Dzifa Ablah Gomashie lauded the organisers for a festival like this and mentioned that we ought to "develop our arts together and promote what we have as Ghanaians."

Among the programs earmarked for the celebration include dance aerobics, dance productions, seminars and honours. Others include the "Lords of Street Dance", "Club Jam", "Highlife Jam", "Gospel Rock Show", "Retro Jam/Dance For Charity", "Accra Must Dance" and more.

GDF is presented by CA-IM with support from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts and the National Dance Company.
