‘’International Mixtape Franchise ‘’ early developments.
Music has formed its own economy over the years, away from live performances and road shows. Being able to reach an international audience is now a must, for artists to be able to make a living.

With terms such as the “African Diaspora”, it seems Africa will always be deemed responsible for the success (or failures) of the black race across the globe.
Within the musical context, Africa has yet to establish a music label or association - that operates within the same mindset of multinational corporations that actually originates from Africa. When Boss Brain Entertainment (BBE) and Lavatory Records (LR) got together, both entities mulled over a way to break barriers and move forward in terms of artists from different geographical positions working together. Both companies were however mindful of the possible challenges that they could face while undertaking this mission, but this was not to deter the vision foreseen by BBE and LR.
The introduction of CD and DVD formats had turned music into a luxury item, where people who had money could afford to spend on updating their musical catalogues at any given time. This meant music had premium prices, especially during the “new product launching” phase.

The advancement of the internet brought about a major digital revolution, which sated the premium price value of music. Free music downloads and streaming became the norm.
Streaming leads the way in Urban (politically correct for “black”) music –that is, Hip Hop and R&B. Due to this change in the game, BBE and LR were inspired to embarked on creating a Mixtape series that will establish a platform for African artists where they’d be able to work with other international contemporaries. The “free trade” that already exists in music because of the file sharing and free downloading system produces an opportunity which some have still not embraced.
Music and the arts industry need to utilise the cooperative economics model where artists can get together and help each other out. This is how the great economic depression after World War II was eradicated. The people took it upon themselves to start innovating and trading with each other, without the aid of national governance. The name International Mixtape Franchise symbolises wealth creation in the same vein as the International Monetary Fund - just for artists.
The International Mixtape Franchise is not only a platform, but also serves as a blueprint of adaptability and collaboration for generations to come if proven to be successful. The set-up of the initiative as a franchise entails the sprouting of branches, subsidiaries and joint partnering by populating the brand across the global terrain and creating a presence.
BBE and LR, as well as the artists that will feature on the mixtape are stoked. A project of this kind could only advance the cause of music for the continent and the globe alike. What better way to unite diverse cultures and artistry than through the only language understood by all - music?
