Stormzy Wins At BET Awards in Best International Act – UK

UK- Ghanaian based musician Stormzy has won the award for Best International Act – UK at the 2015 BET Awards.

The 21-year old beat popular UK-based Ghanaian act FUSE ODG to win the category. The category also had Lethal Bizzle, Little Simz, Mnek, and FKA Twigs as the other nominees.

A member of U.K.’s grime scene, Stormzy has been rapping since age 11 and had aspirations to pursue engineering at one point. However, the calling to do music was too strong for him to ignore and he has since pursued it full time.

His award was another big win for Ghana after Stonebwoy scooped that of Best International Act – Africa.
Stonwbwoy’s win in the Best International Africa Act category was Ghana’s second in three years after Sarkodie shared his 2012 award with Nigeria’s Wizkid.

The 2015 BET Awards will be hosted by the stars of the hit ABC comedy “Blackish,” Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross. Acting nominees include greats like Viola Davis, Taraji P. Henson, Kerry Washington, Idris Elba, Terrence Howard and Kevin Hart.

The Awards will showcase artists like Nicki Minaj, Kendrick Lamar, Chris Brown, Ciara and Jason Derulo. The cast of “Empire” is slated to make a special musical performance. A segment of the program will be dedicated to legend of the field including Janet Jackson, Smokey Robinson and Tom Joyner.
