In its sixteen year history one this that has become almost certain is that the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards gets competitive every year.
Whilst some categories are fairly easy to predict others have over the years become almost impossible to predict, take the Best New Artiste of the Year for instance it is not only very competitive but also very controversial.
This year for instance that category has been tipped to be one of the fiercely contested categories with contenders such as MzVee, Episode, Emelia Arthur, Vybrant Faya, Wiyaala and Pappy Kojo.
It’s a display of fine and creative talents who can be said to be the future of Ghanaian music. It is almost impossible to predict who would emerge as the Best New Artiste of the Year.
For instance MzVee is an awesome performer with strong vocal ability so it was no surprise she has also been nominated on the Best Female Vocal Performer category, Episode is an energetic dancehall artiste who has also been nominated for the Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year category, Emelia Arthur whose song Kyere me Kwan made her a household name, Vybrant Faya is a young but mature dancehall artiste in terms of vocal ability and lyrics, Wiyaala is an amazing performer with a powerful vocal ability no wonder she is also nominated in the Best Female Vocal Performer category. This year for instance that category has been tipped to be one of the fiercely contested categories with contenders such as MzVee, Episode, Emelia Arthur, Vybrant Faya, Wiyaala and Pappy Kojo.

But there is talk about one of the nominees, Pappy Kojo. His relationship with Joey B who was the best new artiste last year has left many wondering if Pappy Kojo could take home the award.
These two have an interesting relationship, they are not officially a group but they are literally joined at the hip. They usually perform together and their combined energy is electrifying, if you doubt just ask Cape Coasters who jumped up and with them during the 2015 VGMA Nominees Jam.
But as you many already know, being friends with a previous winner is no guarantee of you winning the award. Pappy Kojo is a worthy contender for the award but he would have to face stiff competition from the other contenders.
Whether you are in favor of a baton change or not, you have a 40% chance of deciding who emerges as the Best New Artiste of the Year, simply text A for Artiste of the Year, B for Vodafone Song of the Year and C for all other categories to 1767.
