Office Tricks : 12 Ways To Your Office Will Be Productive Over The Festive Season

Dear Cypress Ghana Blog Readers,

The festive season is upon us and as the year draws to a close, it is necessary to get the work done yet we cannot ignore that there will be a temptation to unwind too soon and party more than perform.

What can you do in your office to ensure that people get to celebrate and spread the love without wasting more than their fair share of time; bear in mind that some people will also work better as they will feel happier and more relaxed which can often produce better results.

1.    Accept that with the frills and fuss may come with the temptation to be less focused on work – stay aware in order not to allow this to take over your valuable time.

2.    Plan some team activities that everyone will be able to get involved in and enjoy – party, festive lunch, team building time together, staff children’s party etc.

3.    Give extra time off for people to get shopping done to reduce domestic stress – this will be fairer than just a few people taking advantage due to their position or perculiar working arrangements.  For example – an extra half or day off within the month of December to reward hard work during the year as long as it won’t negatively affect targets and timelines.

4.    Use the time to finish the year strong and tie lose ends – declutter, tidying, filing, shadowing during the quiet time.

5.    Review the year’s progress and get a head start on next year’s strategies.

6.    Take advantage of the upcoming holidays and touch base with your clients – find out how their year has been and keep the relationship going.

7.    Solidify the team with a shared time of closing off unresolved issues in order to stay focused and committed.  People can put the year’s issues and conflicts behind them as necessary.

8.    Ask for ideas from the team on what they want for Christmas for the ‘company/office’ and how they can make that a reality.  For example, better communication, more visibility within the sector or increased market share.

9.    Use the time to do some charitable activities within the community you work in to raise your profile, leave a positive mark and make your company memorable.

10.    Encourage/allow staff to book time off rather than over indulge and call in sick or turn up late because of partying hard and create more stress for others who have to cover their work – better planning.

11.    Agree skeleton staff for certain days so that the office is adequately covered yet people aren’t present for the sake of it and those who are there carry out their work effectively.

12.    Finally, be sensitive to those who may not be in as much a celebratory mood as you for whatever reason.  Being kind and understanding will encourage them to join in the festivities as suits them while your respective responsibilities and obligations are met.

Treat your desk area with due care and discipline – it will help you to perform better at work and give a professional impression!!!
