Gospel events have taken a new swoop and are gradually gaining grounds in the entertainment and events industry in Ghana.
Gone are the days when contemporary gospel events were held in the confines of small church auditoriums due to the less appreciation of these songs; however the trend has changed and we now have a lot more contemporary artistes making the waves in Ghana, Africa and the world at large and hence we are able to fill stadiums and bigger event auditoriums in in the country.
Thanks to the pioneers in the contemporary gospel music industry like Danny Nettey, Nii Okai, Ike Nanor, just to mention a few, a lot more shoots have sprouted and the likes of Sonnie Badu, Joe Mettle, KODA, Cwesi Oteng, Akesse Brempong etc are making the nation proud with their powerful songs that are crossing the boundries of Africa.
This impact has engendered the coming into Ghana of renowned international names in the contemporary gospel music scene to join our local acts together in worship.
Our local artistes have shared worship stages with the likes of Don Moen, Donnie McClurkin, Cece Winans, Kirk Franklin, Lionel Peterson, Ron Kenoly, Israel Houghton, Micah Stmapley, Mali Music, Deitrick Haddon, William McDowell, Fred Hammond and recently Kurt Carr.
So now the question being asked by most of the patrons of the events that hosted these minsterels of God is “Who is the next international gospel artiste that will come out for worship in Ghana?”
Could it be Marvin Sapp, J Moss, Martha Munizzi, Darlene Zschech, Yolanda Adams, Kierra Sheard, Jonathan Butler, James Fortune or you just add up to the list? With the year still young, contemporary gospel lovers can only wait in earnest anticipation for the next gospel star who will storm the shores of Ghana out for worship.
A quick question with regards to gospel event organization in Ghana is “Are gospel event organizers able to meet the standard of proper event organization and management in the country?” A few of these events can stand out while the rest are nothing to write home about; so then do we say a lot of christian event organizers subscribe to mediocrity or they have just not grown the wings to rub shoulders with some of the big event organizers in the entertainment industry?
Well, we may just have to wait for the next out for worship concert to know whether gospel event organizers can live up to and even beat the standard in Ghana.
