Opinion: After The Industry Awards Night, Are The Signs Clearer Now?

After VGMAs industry awards came off last Saturday, many people have expressed their dissatisfaction about some award winners. According to these people, the winners of these awards did not deserve to be given the award looking at their impact in the under reviewing concerning their category.

Bruno Denise writes this publication questioning if this same thing will repeat on Saturday.

This year’s nominations list cropped out hullabaloos when the final nominees list was released in each category under the year of review. And it seems Charter House has constantly refused to listen to the constructive criticisms poured out year in, year out.

Though critics and music enthusiasts have commented on the nomination list, it is clear some nominees in some categories did not go down well especially ‘Best New Artiste’ and ‘Artiste of the Year’.
The enviable category (Artiste of the Year) that always get artiste and music lovers on their toes saw artiste like Castro, Kwabena Kwabena, Sonnie Badu, Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, Samini and Guru successfully placing themselves in this nod.

My question then sets in, “why was Bisa Kdei not nominated in this category”, because for all I know Bisa Kdei meets the criteria of Charter House to be in Artiste of the Year. So with his award nod at the just concluded Industry Night Award scheme, is the handwriting becoming clearer?

If Bisa Kdei and OJ’s names weren’t ‘picked’ by the board, then who will win this enviable crown for the year under review?

Though this category (Artiste of the Year) has the crowd’s favourites in this category it indicates, there is going to be a tough decision for the board and the public but yet as the saying goes ”No Vote, No Complain”. But the question sets in again how credible is the voting system?

Judging from the response, comments, viewpoints and after critical scrutinizing from all indications, it is obvious all heads are nodding and comfortably waiting for the name Shatta Wale to be mentioned as the Artiste of the Year after a supposedly successful career under the year of review.

But come to think of it, don’t you think Shatta Wale may be snapping this one based on his insults on the organisers last year? Because Kwaw Kese did same then the following year he bagged an award home, Nicholas Omane Acheampong did same and scooped an award the following year.

This is just an opinion from a writer who is concerned with the affairs of the entertainment industry in Ghana, thus, we shall wish Guru, Castro, Kwabena Kwabena, Sonnie Badu, Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, Samini and Shatta Wale the best of luck, with the intention that whoever wins the night, does so on merit.
