Dr. Paa Bobo goes home April 5th

The mortal remains of departed highlife musician Dr. Paa Bobo, will be interred on April 5th.

The date was reached during a one-week celebration held in his honour over the weekend, in the Easter Region.

A number of bodies including the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Veteran Musicians Association of Ghana (VEMAG), Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMBRO), Association of Music Right Owners (AMRO), Professional Musicians Union Association of Ghana (PROMAG), Ghana Association of Phonographic Industry (GAPI), and the Music Council of Ghana attended last weekend’s event.

Real name Kwaku Agyapong Danemah, he was born in 1951, at Akyem, in the Eastern part of Ghana.
His career took off in the late sixties under the tutelage of guitarist Smart Nkansah. He subsequently formed his own band after moving to Nigeria.

Part of the group of Ghanaian musicians who had taken the West African country by storm at the time, he was a known figure in Aba, which was formerly known as Imo State.

In Nigeria, he recorded two separate, highly successful albums with the record label Decca, in a record time of two hours.

A highflying career that saw many highs and very few lows, he had 40 albums to his credit, and multiple platinum singles. He toured the world extensively.

Prior to moving to Nigeria, he worked with the Kusum Agoromma Band of the then Ghana Drama Studio, All Brothers Band, and also with the Okukuseku International Band.

He died at 2:00pm, December 28, last year, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
