As the 10th Annual Channel O Africa Music Video Awards draw closer, Channel O has decided to go down memory lane to discover which country and artist has won the most awards to date.
Judging by the amount of previous winners from the Channel O awards, Nigerian artists rule the roost in the African music video biz, with no less than three 4x winners and well over 20 winners across the various categories throughout the history of the awards. West African musicians in general have been dominating the awards with a plethora of winners from Ghana and Nigeria.
At the apex of the pyramid, P Square, D’Banj and Buffalo Souljah are tied in first position looking down on all other competition with an incredible 5 Channel O awards. Coming in second is the rose among the thorns from Mocambique Lizha James with 4 awards. Lizha shares the second spot with the Nigerian smooth operator 2Face Idibia and Ice Prince who have both also scooped 4 awards.

Sitting at number three with 3 awards is the Nigerian mcee Mode 9, all of them coming in 2006, making him the only artist in the history of the awards to win three different awards during a single awards night. Lizha James holds the record for being the only artist to win an award at four consecutive Channel O Music Video Awards ceremonies. South of the equator, Gal Level, Gazza and The Dogg have all scooped at least two awards respectively to raise that Namibian Flag high. Teargas and Liquideep being the only South African artists to have won more than once with their wins in 2010 and 2011.
The scarcity of repeat winners in each category is a testament to the rigorous competitiveness in the African music industry as well as the impartiality of the Channel O fans when it comes to picking who is the best of the best.
