GH ONE ( @GhOneTV ) Scraps off Laugh Out Loud Comedy Reality Show!!! cc: @g_quaye

Officially, GH One has scrapped off their comedy search reality show dubbed Laugh Out Loud GH which used to air on their channel some few weeks ago.

Sometimes when writers make an observation on a negative development for publication, we are most times seen and tagged as dream-killers, haters, unguarded and unprofessional writers. Nonetheless, since the truth is always one, sometimes we are vindicated; just that no one gives as acknowledgment or encomium. Whether we are tagged as dream-killers, haters, unguarded and unprofessional writers, or not given acknowledgment and encomium, we shall always write with all sincerity. God knows our genuine thoughts so man can say whatever.

A month ago, I published an article with the headline; 'Ghanaian Comedians Disgrace Charterhouse.' In the said publication, I lauded Charterhouse and GH One for initiating the first ever comedy search reality show on their channel called Laugh Out Loud GH. However, I suggested management of GH One scrap the programme off their channel.

Reasons: majority of the supposed comedians who auditioned had no comedy incision, the supposed comedians don't have confidence, they don't have the intelligence, wit and attitude for comedy and their English hummed like the Korle Gonno human excreta cesspool. I did the review with a clean and objective conscience.

After the publication, some arts mavens called me to express disappointment with their reason being that my write-up could discourage sponsors from sponsoring the programme. I defended my points and said emphatically that no responsible corporate body in this world will sponsor Laugh Out Loud GH, because the contestants made the programme appear puerile.

On Tuesday 13th August, 2013's episode of The Pundit – an insightful and honest-to-goodness entertainment talk show on GH One hosted by George Quaye – Aboagye of Taxi Driver fame, he confessed that management of the station has taken the programme off because their audience were not enjoying it. Balled over, one of the panelists, Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo asked George Quaye for reconfirmation, 'what did you say?' 'I said responses from our viewers are that they are not enjoying the show so we had to take it off,' George revealed.

Interestingly, George Quaye and Lydia Forson were the audition judges for Laugh Out Loud GH. During the audition seasons, sometimes, the facial expressions and demeanor of George Quaye and Lydia Forson revealed abundantly clear that 'Enko yie.' I saw their efforts to verbally help squeeze the comedy act out of the contestants to life but unfortunately, 'the 'there' was not 'there.'

I am not a sadist, so I am not rejoicing because I suggested to GH One to scrap the programme off and corroboratively, complains from their viewers caused them to take it off; because, if for nothing at all, somebody's dream of becoming Ghana's best stand-up comedian has been shattered. However, that does not mean GH One should have celebrated mediocrity on their venerated platform.

Flex newspaper has also in the past started certain columns which did not work and for that reason, we took them off. I salute management of GH One for exercising honesty and professionalism in this regard. I still maintain that English comedy is not a Ghanaian 'thing.' We may get there later. Until then……MOTWUM!!
