Ama Konadu Abebrese, Benny Blanco, and Fashion 101 host and Lawyer Sandra Ankobiah, will from Monday September 2 host TV3′s new Morning Show, New Day.
All three join The Diva’s Show host Nana Aba Anamoah, to form a strong breakfast quartet, positioned to offer fresh competition to similar formats on morning television.
The newly-introduced programme is replacing Sunrise, which was until few weeks ago hosted by Eric Don-Arthur, who also became sole host after female co-host Moon Sangmor, left months ago.
Enewsgh.com understands New Day is strategically being placed to solidify the station’s hold on the capital and beyond in the mornings, often a waterloo segment for most local network managers.
The four are expected to bring in the numbers. New Day airs from 6:00am to 10:00am, Monday to Saturday.
It is not clear what informed TV3′s decision to take Sunrise off air but the reasons as enewsgh.com gather, couldn’t be far from how stale it became with time, hence the introduction of what looks like a crack star team to get the job done.
The station may also have been inspired by the relatively impressive viewer-appeal Viasat 1's This Morning enjoys, and badly needed a team to help it tap into that market, which still has some amount of viewers up for grabs.
All four come to the show with an appreciable wealth of combined experience that could be helpful to its sustainability.
Ama K. Abebrese achieved relative success with the once-popular OBE TV in the United Kingdom before relocating to Ghana, to take up on and off-air roles at the Labone-based Viasat 1. She left after a short stint to pursue a full-time acting career.
She has since staged a return to television, shooting some episodes of Season Two of her personality profile show A Day in the Life, airing soon on Viasat 1. A Day in the Life is independently-produced by Modern African Productions (MAP), the production arm of Viasat 1, and as such does not make her an employee of the station.
Sandra Ankobiah has a relatively short but enticing television experience, making a name for herself as host of the fashion magazine show, Fashion 101. Ankobiah, a trained lawyer called to the bar recently, will read the news on the four-hour show only on Saturdays.
This website can however state that she is only able to join the team by Saturday September 14. The former Miss Ghana runner up, who is currently on holidays in the United Kingdom will check back into town after the show goes live on Monday.
This website can also report that Miss Ankobiah will apart from her Saturday slot on New Day, also present weekly, primetime bulletins on the station.
Joining the three ladies, is reality show host Benny Blanco, who is going off the morning show at LIVE FM. Blanco we understand, will be re-assigned and given a new slot on the Tesano-based station.

So, just how strong is the new team?
Radio and Television Columnist, Francis Doku, offers some perspective.
“I must concede that it comes across as a very strong team,” he tell this website .
“All of these ladies and gentleman have had some experience in television presenting and to some extent production. I think it’s the dream of any station, producer or director of a television show to have such an array of stars to host a show.”
Doku however adds “I hope the production team has clearly defined the roles that each of the ladies would play to ensure that there are no conflicts that could lead to bickering and eventual separation.”
What are the prospects for a show as virgin as New Day?
“Although it looks good on paper and one would not blink to suggest that it has the potential to draw eyeballs to the show and the station we would have to wait and see how viewers would take it after the initial buzz,” he says. “This is the advertiser’s dream, but we’ll have to rationalize with numbers eventually. So we’ll see how it goes.” In its 16th year (started full transmission on October 1, 1997), TV3 remains one of the most watched stations in Ghana. In March 2005, it became a subsidiary of Media Prima Berhad of Malaysia, when TV3 Malaysia transferred its shares in Gama Film Company.
A fully-owned Ghanaian company, Media General Ghana Limited, acquired and took over its operations in September 2011, resulting in reforms, and structural adjustments.
