SAMINI ( @samini_dagaati ) SHOWS V.G.M.A RED CARD? cc: @VodafoneGhana @CharterhouseGHA @GHmusicawards

The manager of dancehall and reggae artiste of international repute Samini, has revealed to Flex newspaper that his artiste will not perform at VGMA night come 18th May, 2013.

Samini is one artiste whose name has come under serious consideration and expectations by stakeholders in the arts and the general public as far as artistes' expected to perform at this year's Vodafone Ghana Music Awards VGMA is concerned.

Flex newspaper however, gathered that Charterhouse, organizers of the awards offered a performance contract to Samini to perform on the awards night but the latter passed up the offer. To ascertain the veracity of our information, Flex newspaper contacted the manager (Tony) of Samini.

“Yes, Charterhouse extended a performance offer to us for Samini to perform at this year's VGMA night but we had to turn down their offer due to a contract the artiste has signed with a third party (of course MTN brand ambassador). We humbly apologize to all our fans”.

“It is a situation beyond our control but we respect that as well. Samini is worried because of his fans who will not see him perform but I can assure you that he (Samini) and the whole management team shall grace and give our support to other artistes on the awards night,” Tony confessed.

Since Vodafone continues to be the headline sponsor of GMA until another sponsor takes the baton, Flex newspaper asked Tony if this development will not create a bad business relationship between Samini and Charterhouse as far as Ghana Music Awards is concerned year after year and he said; “Not at all! This can't create any bad blood between Charterhouse and Samini. We explained our reason to them and being a responsible organization, they understood where we were coming from. Samini and Charterhouse continue to be twins in different forms.”

Flex newspaper also gathers that Asem, who is a Glo ambassador will be performing at VGMA night. The question therefore is; how come Asem who is a brand ambassador to Glo, a competitive brand to Vodafone will be performing at VGMA night but Samini is allegedly being prevented by MTN?

A few lines of exceptions we are privy to in some of the contract agreement between these telecom companies and artistes when it comes to performance is that, if the event is an “Industry Event,” the artiste is allowed to perform irrespective of whether the headline sponsor is a competitor or not. VGMA is an Industry Event. Is it an issue of different strokes for different folks? An old debate is once again resurrected. Let's keep the discussion going. Until then….MOTWUM!!
