The music reality show introduced last year is aimed at identifying, grooming and supporting young aspiring artistes to record their own music and to turn them into stars.
Last year’s edition saw the transformation of several talents after weeks of grooming. The finale came off at the Accra International Conference Centre where Shadrach Adjei popularly known as Naterial beat Miriam, Chiki and Atimbilla to claim the first prize.
Naterial and Miriam have since recorded their debut albums titled Mamle and My Testimony respectively.
Last Thursday’s launch at the Oak Plaza Hotel in Accra was attended by I was virtually the last to leave the Restaurant and on my return several personalities from the entertainment industry, some winners of last year’s edition of the show and executives of MTN, main sponsors of the show.
Ivan Quashigah, Director of Farmhouse Productions, producers of the show, told Myjoyonline.com in an interview that he was impressed with the fact that MTN Hitmaker is a departure from the norm where contestants performed songs that were not theirs.
According to him, MTN, based on research, felt that talented persons should be given the opportunity to come and show their talents.
Ivan Quashigah noted that, “we have to do it even better,” by paying attention to planning and execution of the second edition of the show. The production team “understands that they need to put in their best,” to produce a good show.
Application for this season’s show are already underway and hopefuls can apply by submitting their demos which will last for eight weeks to be followed by three weeks of sieving to select the final 20 contestants.
Hopefuls can also take part in the on air auditions on selected radio stations across the length and breadth of the country.
If all goes according to plan, “by early November we should be crowning a new winner,” Ivan Quashigah added.
The MTN Hit-Maker season two has a prize package of a recording and artiste management deal worth GH¢100,000.00 for the winner and GH¢50,000.00 for the first runner-up. The third and fourth-placed winners will also receive some handsome prizes.
MTN Hit-Maker will also reward the sound engineers with the Best Beat on the show and weekly prizes for Best Performer, Best Appearance, Highest Texters and more.
The launch, which was emceed by Drive Time on Joy FM host Kwabena Anokye Adisi popularly known as Bola Ray, also witnessed performances from Miriam and Naterial.
