He explained that regular exercise improves motor skills, boosts mental health, and prevents chronic illnesses like obesity and diabetes.

The timely intervention on the discussion addressed the alarming trends in childhood obesity, particularly emphasising the rising statistics, which highlights the need for urgency in addressing the expert’s message.

Childhood obesity has become a global concern, affecting millions of children worldwide. According to recent data, by the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2022, approximately 37 million children under the age of 5 were overweight.

This issue, once predominantly associated with high-income countries, is now escalating in low- and middle-income nations, including nations across Africa. The number of overweight children under 5 in Africa has surged by nearly 23% since 2000.

The prevalence of obesity among children aged 5-19 has surged from 8% in 1990 to 20% in 2022, affecting both genders, with 19% of girls and 21% of boys affected.

During the live session, Dr. Renner highlighted the rise in childhood obesity, attributing it to sedentary lifestyles and poor diets. "Childhood obesity has long-term health consequences. Integrating physical activity into daily routines is essential for maintaining a healthy weight and preventing related diseases," he said.

Speaking on the need for physical activities, Aproko Doctor also discussed the positive impact of exercise on mental health and cognitive development, stating, "Exercise can improve mood, reduce anxiety and depression, and enhance cognitive functions," he noted, stressing the release of endorphins during physical activity.

Providing practical insights for parents, Dr. Renner advised, "Balancing academics with physical activity is needed for well-rounded child development." Aproko Doctor added, "Make exercise fun and part of daily life. Family walks, bike rides, and sports are great ways to stay active."

Following his passion for child health and development, Dr.Renner in an ongoing campaign for child health, and ease of childcare for nursing parents is set to launch The Baby convention — Nigeria’s first ever conference to bring together expecting parents, working-class moms, and families who need first-hand expert intervention with children in a commune with professionals in the paediatric space.

The premiere event aims to provide a unique opportunity for parents to be educated, entertained, and fully equipped for the parenting life.
