ZACK AMA ORJI TO FEATURE IN “WuMan” MOVIE

A renowned Nigerian Actor, Producer, Director and Filmmaker Zack Orji is set to feature in a new movie titled “WuMan.

WuMan is not a typical word but  a cross between Woman and human, the movie seek to draw attention to one of the most talked about issues around the world, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), and it hopes to help refocus attention on the practice.FGM is the ritual cutting removal of part or all of the external female genitals.

In an exclusive interview with the Media, Mr. Zack Orji said the world is now a community and what seemingly affect some members, truly has a repercussion on all.

Therefore, we can’t turn a blind eye to what is going on around us.  This is why I decided to be part of this project. We must act to fight the menace decisively now, to liberate the young girls and our women.

He stressed that an international film such as WuMan, could bring to light the inhumane treatment caused by practices such as FGM and Sex Trafficking. “We hope to refocus attention and rekindle interest against these practices, on both national and international front. I’m glad I play a role as president to pull strings and cause actions”.

Touching on the Film industry in Africa, He said the industry must be able to compete on the global market to have its fair share. Gradually we are on a move to achieving that. However, I must say it needs a lot of hard work and sacrifice.

On his part the producer Prince Joshua Kofi Morrison emphasised that Ghana has played a formidable role in the fight against such practises, and has even gone beyond symbolic gestures to actually annulling the FGM practice. That is laudable and must be acknowledged on international arena.

“I think Ghana, as a pioneering country should continue to lead the way forward and serve as a beacon of hope for other countries.” He said

Mr. Morrison who has been in the movie business for about a decade and has produced movies like Love City, People’s Dilemma and Dream Nappers under his Success Star Productions, said the story, which also focuses on sex trafficking is dear to his heart and will go all out to create public awareness.

The movie WuMan is produced by US-based filmmaker and the purpose is to create global awareness about cruel and inhumane treatment of women especially FGM in developing countries.

“The issues of FGM and sex trafficking have been on the agenda of the UN, world leaders, WHO and other world organisations. Yet, it continues to elude many leaders, both national and international. This film will help to compel attention, rekindle concerns, and express the need for international re-focus,” he said.
