Lydia Forson, Adjetey Anang Win At 2018 Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards

Ghanaian actress, writer, and producer, Lydia Forson won the award for Best Supporting Actress, Movie/TV Series for the movie Isoken while Adjetey Anang scooped Best Actor, Drama/TVSeries for his role in KETEKE at Saturday’s Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards.

The Convention Centre of the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos - Nigeria, for the sixth time since 2013 hosted Africa’s filmmaking community, for a night’s celebration.

The award ceremony had the usual glitz and glamour as well as interesting moments, winners and first timers.

The two talents gave Ghana something to cheer about with their respective wins. Lydia Forson was present to receive her award while {Pusher} Adjetey Anang’s was received on his behalf by the wife as he couldn’t make it to the event.

Kenya’s Phoebe Ruguru (18 Hours) beat Sparrow Productions’ Shirley Frimpong (Potato Potahto) and four others to win the overall Best Movie.

Veteran cinematographer, Tunde Kelani, has emerged the winner of the 2018 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards’ Industry Merit Award.

The AMVCAs are a celebration of Africa’s film and TV talents. The scheme represents a significant investment by MultiChoice Africa as a commitment to the development of skills and talent on the continent.

Following the fifth edition of the awards in March 2017, plans for the next instalment were put on hold to accommodate a busy MultiChoice production calendar in 2018, with the first two quarters of the year accommodating the highly anticipated return of Big Brother Naija and the FIFA World Cup.

Organizers say the hiatus was necessary to ensure that the AMVCAs hold amidst no distractions, and matches the stellar standards and production values that the awards are known for.

The window became much wider and all films, made-for-television movies or television series were eligible for entry if they were broadcast or screened during the period October 1st, 2016 to March 31st, 2018. This meant the eligibility window was 17 months, an improvement from the last edition’s 11 months.

There were a total of 27 categories, with seven categories open to public voting and 20 being decided by the AMVCA panel of judges.

The AMVCAs screened LIVE on all Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv.
