KOFI LAING WRITES : Vanessa Harrison — A Hidden Gem In GLOBAL Fashion

For the last 3 years, I have canvassed Ghana on the fashion terrain to gain a good understanding of our ethics, culture and heritage and how that is helping to transform the Ghanaian Fashion Industry.

Ghana has so much opportunity for growth in the fashion which can only be beneficial to this country as a whole once this industry becomes self-sufficient with adequate investment, Government participation and teamwork within the stylish, bloggers, illustrators, designers and the like.

The pacesetters of Joyce Ababio, Kofi Ansah and Mawuli Okudzeto have all served Ghana well in their various ways but the future of fashion transcends our borders and the revenue stream will be substantial if we can all get behind it. So who are our next flagbearers?

Vanessa Harrison is a designer I stumbled on recently when I was given the opportunity to be a panellist on a fashion tv red carpet event. Our very own Stephanie Benson wore Vh_Mode to the recently completed Glitz style awards and her outfit was very intriguing. Fluid symmetrical geometric designs achieved by precise placement of colour through the fabric.

Speaking on Adom TV’s discussion segment of Kuch Rang Television series hosted by Tima KumKum, the musician during the discussion on the topic about still talking to your former partners after a break-up gave answers that were quite shocking to the host.

Deaconess Mary started her submission by stating that it is no big deal to still be in contact with your ex when the two break up because she believes being at loggerheads is bad and once you do that, the sort of hatred that comes out may even cause one to kill the other.

The rising gospel singer, however, expressed her displeasure in deciding to work in the same place as your ex. She opined that because there is usually some bitterness and anger between the two, it tends to slow production at the workplace and as such suggested that once people break-up, one person leaves the particular workplace.

It was at this point that the musician dropped the shocker that she married her husband a virgin and as such has no ex.

Fly TV Raided For Broadcast Right Infringement

The Film and Television industry in Ghana continues to grapple with the illegal broadcast of content/piracy by Television stations resulting in huge revenue losses.

The sports and film sectors continue to be the hardest hit by this menace. Several local TV stations have been airing international sporting events without going through the process to acquire rights for the territories they operate in and to the detriment of rights holders.

A team from the SWAT Unit of the Ghana Police Service and the National Communications Authority (NCA) conducted a raid of the premises of Fly TV at Aburi and seized equipment that were being used to illegally broadcast content without the consent of the rights holders.

This raid comes on the heels of the two earlier injunctions secured by MultiChoice Ghana against Nour Vision operators of Fly TV restricting them from showing the FIFA World Cup and the Premier league.

The raid was to enforce the most recent court order restraining Fly TV from broadcasting the Premier League. Fly TV ignored the court order and proceeded with the broadcast thus necessitating the enforcement of the order by the seizure of equipment used for the infringing broadcasts. The directors of Nour Vision Ltd (operators of Fly TV) are currently under charges of contempt of court at the High Court, Accra.
