The Youth Are The Answer To Sustainable Development – Rally For The Goals

The Rally for the Goals (Global Goals PR) has made a strong statement to the Governments and Development Agencies, that the youth are the driving force for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) if the 17 Goals were to be realized by 2030.

This was part of the submission made by the President of the Advocacy and Volunteerism Agency, Mr. Stephen Selasie Asuo during a mammoth youth durbar held in the Ada in the Greater Accra Region on Saturday 9th July 2016.

The durbar dubbed “The Future Leaders’ Conference” attracted over five thousand students from junior high and senior high schools in the District and co-hosted by the Big Ada chapter of Christ Embassy (one of the fastest growing Faith-based organizations in Africa).

This is the first time Rally for the Goals organized an advocacy event with a Christian organization.  Schools in attendance included Ada Secondary Technical Institute, Ada Technical Institute, Ada Senior High School, other schools and members of Christ Embassy. Also in attendance were the leaders of Rally for the Goals, the Secretary-General – Josephine Offei and the Vice President – Abbey Emmanuel Alo.
Mr. Stephen Selasie Asuo in his presentation took time to give a brief introduction of all the 17 SDGs to the students. Afterwards he enlightened them on their role as agents of development in their generation and had the responsibility to eliminate extreme poverty, inequality or social injustice and climate change.

Furthermore, the President said it is important they take these goals seriously since they show that their future had definite targets globally; hence they had the same opportunities as their counterparts all around the world. He used the opportunity to thank the Government of Ghana and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for believing in youth based organizations in promoting and implementing the SDGs.

The programme featured exaltations from the Pastor of the church, Pastor Pascal Dzivenu and some of his youth leaders encouraging them to grow in consistency of the Word of God and become faithful leaders who will affect the future of Ghana. Some of the activities included music and dance competitions presentations from the students and youth from church.

Pastor Pascal Dzivenu also used the opportunity to thank Rally for the Goals, UNDP, NDPC and other partners for considering the youth as agents of development in Ghana and encouraged them continue replicate this efforts nationwide.

Rally for the Goals partnered with Christ Embassy as part of their preparation to launch the “I Volunteer for the SDGs”, an SDGs Youth Advocacy and Volunteer initiative in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, UNDP and other development Partners as part of activities to mark the UN International Youth Day celebrations which would hold at the Achimota Retail Centre in Accra with loads of entertainment-interactive activities.
