Ghanaian Rapper E.L will join Live FM‘s team for this year’s Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards.
Sources say, it is a sort of compensation for the technical hitches he faced at the recently held Tigo Ghana Meets Naija event. EL’s performance became a huge talking point when his sound was shut off for a long while at the event.
The 2016 Ghana Music Awards ‘Artiste of the Year’ missed out on the ‘Best International Act: Africa’ nomination which went to Dancehall act MzVee.
EIB Network is taking care of the trip and associated costs. The main idea, executives of the Live FM‘s parent company say is to get an ‘Artiste of the Year’ every other year to attend the awards whether nominated or not. It’s likely to be an annual.
The Live FM team consists of Jay Foley and Vanessa Gyan, who will be covering this year edition of the award scheme. The duo will bring to listeners of the nation’s biggest youth brand live updates from the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles on June 26.
Live FM is the awards scheme’s official media network in Ghana after agreeing to a deal with Viacom International Media Networks, owners of the successful global network BET.
The 2016 BET Awards kicks off at 8 p.m. EDT and will air around the world on BET’s international network. It will air in Africa on Tuesday, June 28 at 7:00 p.m.
Station executives say the partnership will see LIVE FM playing a key partnership role in the Best International Act: Africa category, which for the past few years gone by has been a point of interest for most followers of the BET Awards in the continent.
Business Manager at LIVE 91.9 FM, John Foley, said:
“This is welcoming for us as a station and also for the whole continent. We are pleased to be partnering Viacom for this. The Best International Act: Africa award is one that we all follow with keen interest and for a vibrant station like LIVE to be chosen as key partner is most refreshing.”
Ghana is making a strong case in this year’s nominations list with Mzvee making an appearance in the Best International Act: Africa category.
This is Ghana’s sixth nomination after Kojo Antwi, Sarkodie, R2Bees, D Black and Stonebwoy.
The BET Awards is in its 16th year. This year’s will honour artists, actors and athletes across 20 categories, and will also feature a tribute to Prince.
Started last year, LIVE FM is yet Ghana’s most exciting urban youth radio brand with a large following.
The station belongs to leading media group EIB Network, which also owns GH One TV, Starr FM, Kasapa FM, Ultimate FM, Empire FM, Abusua FM, Agoo FM, Agoo TV, and the Daily Heritage newspaper.
