Midland Offers GHc 10,000 For Winner Of MUSIGA Peace Song Contest

The Musicians Union of Ghana in collaboration with Midland Savings and Loans is offering a prize of a whopping GHC 10,000.00 to the winner of the VGMA Peace Song Contest to be presented on the VGMA night.

The amount is to enable the winner promote the song. The song contest is part of the Union’s efforts to promote peaceful and credible Presidential and Parliamentary elections on November 7.

According to MUSIGA President BiceOseiKuffour aka Obour, the prize is by the kind courtesy of Midland Savings and Loans who have consistently sponsored the car prize for VGMA winners over the past three years but decided to en courage musicians to become Peach Ambassadors this year.

MUSIGA is inviting peace songs from its members for the contest and  a compilation  album on the need for peaceful and credible elections in November 2016.
Obour added that apart from the top prize winner who walks away with GHC 10,000.00, musicians who make it to the top three will join the MUSIGA Nationwide Peace Campaign.  In addition to the Peace Song Award, the winners of the VGMA Best Music for Development will also receive cash prizes.

The 1st Vice President of the Union, Bessa Simons who is in charge of the song selection process says the songs to be submitted should have a peace message and should be well recorded. The Peace Songs compilation will feature fifteen songs in addition to an All Star song featuring some leading musicians in Ghana.

MUSIGA is among thirty five other civil society organizations selected by STAR- Ghana as implementing-partners for a peaceful and credible election in November.

Activities lined up by the Union include Peace Walks, fora and musical concerts from May to December. These activities will be supported by social media activations led by some of the leading musicians in Ghana.

The MUSIGA project is dubbed “Using Musical as A Tool for National Cohesion in Election 2016”. The MUSIGA Peace campaign is sponsored by STAR-Ghana and Midland Savings and loans.

Strengthening Transparency, Accountability and Responsiveness in Ghana (STAR-Ghana) is a voice and empowerment programme which supports civil society to strengthen accountability and responsiveness of the state to citizens’ issues.
