Claire Clottey is a Screen Nation Digital Media Favourite Online presenter 2015 Award winner and
Nominee for Divas Of Colour UK favourite presenter 2016 march.
She is an obvious talent waiting to be properly utilised in the mainstream, during the event Claire kept the room lively before Brenda Emanus and Kojo took the reins.
What followed was hours of us being ourselves. No supervision, no looking over your shoulder, no feeling the need to rein it in,it was truly a black awards show.
It was a celebration of black excellence, night of telling the African stories and encouraging each other and empowering others to accept themselves. Claire is hosting the largest natural hair event in the UK for the second time touring Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and London where black women come together in their numbers to learn to care for, love and celebrate chemical free hair.
Black women have been shying away from their natural hair for decades with many misconceptions about what beauty is, their perceptions heavily influenced by the western media which suggests ‘straight hair is better and more beautiful’.
Having young black girls around the world in mind, Claire was delighted when NaturalHairWeekUK.com felt she was the perfect example of a woman in the media to represent their brand.
She has been natural for 3 years now and has just begun her loc/rasta journey. She feels that embracing natural hair is not only for her physical health but also important for ones identity, self-esteem and overall emotional well being.
The hair industry is a multi million dollar business and black women are potentially the biggest consumers, from relaxers, to weaves, and braids…
Claire begun her radio journey at West side FM hosting a small Education show once a week, then moved over to Bang Radio which is now The Beat London 103.6FM.
She hosts a prime time Sunday talk show called #TheConversation where she explores sociopolitical issues in the news and on social media. Another feature the show is to highlight role models who are ‘alive’, sharing the tales of their journey to success including the tribulations in order to inspire listeners to be the best versions of themselves and fulfill their potential.
Every week, Claire has live callers getting involved in the show. Claire recently did a documentary called ‘growing up without Dad’ for BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra and she is currently developing more documentaries for large broadcast outlets.
Claire is a freelancer who believes so much that she has tattooed ‘Living in Purpose’ across her chest. She is also looking forward to running youth development projects across secondary schools in the Uk to encourage and aspire young people from the African Diaspora.
