Game Time Entertainment, has launched the first ever community based basketball tournament in Accra to help promote the game.
Christened ‘Rhythm and Rims,” it is a 10-week tournament meant to elevate basketball to a level where ordinary Ghanaians can support their home teams, and enjoy the sport, much like football.
The inaugural tournament tipped off last Sunday with Tema Sharks defeating Korle Bu Kings 30-24 in a cagey encounter at the Accra Polytechnic Basketball Court.
“The team that wins the title pockets $ 3,000 while the first and second runner-ups win $ 1,500 and $ 1,000 respectively. The MVP of the competition will also win $ 500,” Lewis Fadipe, the Founder and of Game Time Entertainment said.
“In all, 10 teams will represent their communities to battle it out for the ultimate trophy. The tournament aims to fuse entertainment and sports so there will be performances by Ghanaian artists, mixes from top DJs as well as cheerleading at intervals,” he said
Mr Fadipe mentioned that the final tournament will be held on a special mobile basketball court, the first of its kind in Ghana at a special location, “NBA All-star format with entertainment” yet to be announced.
