Floyd Mayweather Sr. Gets A Special NAFCA Lifetime Achievement Award In Entertainment

Floyd Mayweather Sr.  is an American boxing trainer and awelterweight contender during the 1980s. Floyd Sr. is known for his defensive ability and overall knowledge of boxing strategy. 

He is the father and trainer of five-division boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. He is also credited for teaching his son the defensive skills that made him a champion.

Floyd Mayweather Sr. is known for his outspokenness. He frequently recites poetry about his opponent and still does today for his fighter's opponent. Some refer to him as the "poet laureate of boxing."

Mayweather Sr.'s boxing record was 28–6–1 (18 KOs), andhe won the U.S. Championship Tournament in 1977 against Miguel Barreto. 

Floyd Mayweather Sr. taught Mayweather Jr. to punch when he was still a toddler in and he once served as his son Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s manager.

As a trainer, Mayweather preaches defense anda stiff jab. He teaches many of his boxers a defensive technique known as the shoulder roll, in which the fighter uses his front shoulder to deflect blows and limit their impact. He has on many occasions, including HBO's Mayweather - Hatton 24/7, claimed to be "Floyd Joy Mayweather Sr., 'The Greatest Trainer of All Time'".

He is the former trainer of top light heavyweight Chad Dawson,former 2 division champion Joan Guzmán and women's champion Laila Ali.He is well known for his stint as Oscar De LaHoya's trainer from 2001 through 2006.

In May of 2013, for the first time in 13years, Floyd, Jr. announced that Floyd, Sr. would return as his trainer against Robert Guerrero. Sr. has remained the trainer of Jr. ever since and trained him to victory in his fight over Manny Pacquiao.

In his acceptance letter the legendary boxer and boxing trainer wrote:

“Your letter informing me that I will receive the prestigious Special NAFCA Lifetime Achievement award in Entertainment has simply overwhelmed me. It is with deep gratitude that I accept the honor. I will be present at the award with some family members. I am very grateful for the honor and it is encouraging. I am also very appreciative of those who recommended me for this prestigious award, for the time and effort you have put into this yearly event process.

I will of course continue to do my very best and would also be willing to encourage others to get involved and help this award grow”

Again, I am sincerely honored by this recognition and look forward to September.
