WBC To Honour Azumah Nelson, Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis & Evander Holyfield On December15th


Africa’s iconic boxing legend and humanitarian Azumah Nelson’s unrivalled boxing legacy will be etched in the minds and spirits of boxing lovers and historians forever on an international platform like no other. 

On December 15th 2014, hundreds will gather at Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada in the Unites States to honour and celebrate the treasured Ghanaian and a host of acclaimed boxers at the 52nd WBC Convention.

At this highly anticipated international event, Professor Azumah Nelson will rejoin other boxing greats for what is described as the gathering of Super Champions for a special night to honour the legends who displayed excellence and redefined boxing in their respective categories. The WBC will honor the best two champions of each division of the history of the WBC.

Professor Azumah Nelson and the late Alexis Arguello from Nicaragua will be honoured for the Superfeatherweight while Salvador S’anchez and Jeff Fenech for Featherweight division.

Famed boxers Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis will be honoured for the Heavyweight division. Evander Holyfield and Juan Carlos Gomez will be recognized in the Cruiser weight division while Roy Jones Jr. and Michael Spinks will be honored for their Light Heavyweight. All 34 All-Time Greats will be presented with special award title belts which will also pay tribute to the late WBC President Jose Sulaiman.

Professor Azumah Nelson will on Tuesday 16th December launch his book “The Professor” at the convention before returning to Ghana. Ahead of the trip, Professor Azumah Nelson says “this is yet another honour for Ghana. I couldn’t have achieved the feat without Ghanaians support so this is for them”.

In June 2011, Mr. Nelson was a guest speaker at the 2011 Boxing Hall of Fame event in Syracuse which saw the induction of Mike Tyson, Sylvester Stallone, Referee Joe Cortez, Chavez, etc. He used the occasion to encourage his colleague champions to use their status to help the needy in society as he is doing through his foundation, Azumah Nelson Foundation.

In September 2012, WBC in collaboration with watch producers Hublot selected Professor Azumah Nelson as one of twelve considered greatest boxers to launch the WBC Charity Fund in Las Vegas. Some of the boxers included George Foreman, Mike Tyson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Leonnex Lewis, etc.

Our current 17 WBC Champion will join us to be presented with this superb new belt. On the receiving end will be:Bermane Stiverne, Grigory Drozd, Adonis Stevenson, Anthony Dirrell, Miguel Cotto, Gennady Golovkin, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Danny Garcia, Omar Figueroa, Takashi Miura, Jhonny González, Leo, Santa Cruz, Shinsuke Yamanaka, Carlos Cuadras, Roman Gonzalez and Wanheng Menayothin.
