Music – duo A Qube made up Maxwell Kugblenu (Alaska) and Ackom Dickson (Ziggy), have called on the president of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bice ‘Obuor’ Osei Kuffuor to turn his attention to the Eastern Regional branch of the union.
This call is necessitated by what they call mal – administration on the part of the leadership of the regional branch of the union.
Some months ago, it was reported in Flex newspaper that the leadership of the region was not doing things right and that Obuor had gone there to institute a committee to lend a hand to the executives of the union who it was believed were limp – wristed in the administration of Eastern MUSIGA.
The committee headed by Benjamin D. Hinson aka Jah Son has laid out some plans to revive the union by starting with to health walk which took place on 21st September, 2014.
Reliable information has it that after the health walk, the executives have reverted to their old inactive selves and have put up actions that are undermining the smooth running of the union.
Apparently, some members of the executive think they have more power than the committee Obuor set to assist them and owing to this are unwilling to let the committee undertake certain activities for the union.
A Qube, who are card – bearing members of the MUSIGA, are requesting that Obuor visits the region as soon as possible so they tell him their piece of mind. This call is necessitated by what they call mal – administration on the part of the leadership of the regional branch of the union.

“As it stands now the older folk are not giving chance to the young guys on the committee to operate. We don’t know if they feel threatened by the presence of the young ones. Could you believe that we could not complete discussing the accounts on the health walk which took place in September, at one of our meetings and still a detailed account has not been rendered? The Chairman, secretary and other key executive members are almost always not present at meetings,” said A Qube.
They added that what saddens them most is the fact that Sam Cooper who keeps the key to the union’s office has refused to hand them over to those who are ready to be there always.
“Sam Cooper is not qualified to keep the keys because he is mostly not available at the office. During meetings days, members would have to be waiting behind the door while others search for him for the keys. The committee members are ready to avail themselves to keeping the office running but Sam Cooper will just not budge,” they explained.
According to A Qube, the regional chairman who seldom attends meetings has been apprized of the situation but he seems not to be proactive about it.
“We have told him but I don’t know what he has done about it. We are the future of the union so we can’t sit aloof and watch the elderly destroy it for us,” they added.
In addition, Committee Chairman Jah Son told intimated that the conflict of power execution between the executive and the committee has been one of their biggest challenges and would really love that a higher authority steps in.
All attempts to reach the Chairman of Eastern MUSIGA, Mr. Yeboah Johnson and the Welfare Officer, Sam Cooper for their side of the story proved abortive.
Meanwhile, some people have also blamed Obuor for setting up a committee while the executive has not finished serving its term. They believe he should rather have charged the executive to work harder than set a committee whose presence could possibly make them feel insecure of their positions.
A Qube, whose ‘Tokuro’ that features Choirmaster is making rotation on radio stations across the length and breadth of the country, have smash hit songs like Tena Faako, Kye No By Force ft Kesse/DS, Diana and Martha.
