ASA BAAKO MUSIC FESTIVAL COMBINES MUSIC AND ARTS WITH EDUCATION AND CONSERVATION

The 5th Annual Festival Works with Local Community to Create a Music and Arts Extravaganza on Busua Beach

The Asa Baako Music Festival returns to Busua Beach, near Takoradi, over Independence Weekend in March. Once again, this unique event will combine African and African-inspired music from around the world with the freshest breakthrough talent in Ghana.

As always, the festival is working closely with the local community of Busua and surrounding areas, to encourage sustainable tourism in the area through education in conservation, entrepreneurialism and the arts.

The Asa Baako (One Dance) Music Festival has been a revelation in the Western Region since its launch in March 2011. That year, a team of organisers from the UK, Accra and Takoradi, came together with the people of Busua village, to create a unique gathering of people from around the world to celebrate Ghanaian music and culture, on the beach by day, and the original jungle party by night.

Its entertainment policy is one of the most diverse and exciting in Ghana, fusing popular azonto and naija beats with house, kwaito, hip hop, afro beat and much more. As ever, the line-up will be announced over the coming months, with previous performances from the likes of E.L, Efya , Wanlov & M3nsa (FOKN Bois), Kofi Kinaata, and international DJs from around Africa, Europe and the USA.

Organisers, Beating Tracks, operating between Busua, Accra and London, UK, aim to use the event as a platform to not only support young, breakthrough artists, but to also raise awareness of how our actions effect the environment on a daily basis.

Beating Tracks director, Kofi Debrah, says “Part of the reason why Asa Baako is so popular is because of our unique, outdoor locations – whether on the beach or in the jungle – as people feel most alive when they’re with nature. Alongside our focus on the best underground music, it’s important for us to recognise how important our relationship with the environment is, and the part we play in conserving it.”

Asa Baako will take place on March 6th – 8th 2015, featuring a range of underground and established artists from Ghana and around the world. To get involved or find out more about the event, transport, accommodation and more, please visit www.asabaako.com
