Mind The Way You Criticize VGMA Board Because They Are Intellectuals – Charter House

According to  Zionfelix.com, The Public Relations Officer for Charter House, George Quaye popularly known as Aboagye has pleaded with Ghanaians to be circumspect when criticizing Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. He said the award is organized for Ghanaians so they have the right to chastise it but they should be canny when doing so. Speaking on Peace Fm Entertainment Review over the weekend, Aboagye said they expect Ghanaians to criticize the nominees after it’s released but some comments are uncalled-for.

“If people are not able to criticize  your works, then it means you are working for a group of people who are not important. The award is organized for Ghanaians but not for Charter House so if the nominees list is released, our expectations from Ghanaians are the exact we get, that is the criticism. Insults by some people are hard to take but generally we take all feedback”
According to him, the individuals who make up the VGMAs board are well-known and professionals but not perfect so they are bound to make mistakes but when such happens, Ghanaians should know that “some people have left their families and work to make up the board”.

“ We cannot award all the songs released from January 1st to December 31st 2013 so let’s criticize constructively because they chose to be part of the board for the love for Ghanaian music. They have reputable jobs and something to eat but they decided to be members of the board because of Ghanaians and the love for Ghanaian music.

George Quaye mentioned Mark Okreku Mantey, Ben Brako, Amandziba, Nii Ayetey Hammond and other reputable men as members of the board who know music and are expects in their field as well.

“Maybe your favourite song or artiste was not nominated and that doesn’t mean they did a shabby work.  You are allowed to disagree but getting abusive is what we are pleading with Ghanaians to desist from”

Zionfelix.com can confirm that despite the criticisms (such as Kumi Guitar, Akwaboa, Joey B not being new artistes but nominated for ‘Discovery of the year’ category and Sonnie Boadu releasing his ‘Wonder God’ track in 2012) by Ghanaians concerning the nomination list, nothing has been or will be changed from the list. The board stated on the show hosted by Eugene Osafo Nkansah that “we have done our own investigations thoroughly after all these discussions have come and we still believe that the decisions that we took were the right decisions and it still stands. As at now, all the nominations that we have, nothing has changed, it still stands as it is.”

They added that ‘Adult Music’ by Kwabena Kwabena which features Samini and Joey B’s ‘Tonga’ which surprised Ghanaians when they were nominated are not sexually explicit songs or tracks which promote  the use of narcotics or violent  but R2bees’ ‘Ajeei’ hit track which was disqualified years back was a sexually explicit song.
