How I got vindicated – Nigerian musician speaks on rape scandal

Nigerian Fuji musician Abass Akande Obesere is a happy man at the moment, as he has been declared innocent of a rape allegation that threatened to ruin his career.

Olanike Olaiya, a National Diploma graduate of Business Administration from Ibadan Polytechnic, accused the Fuji star of raping her and inserting a ring in her vagina, an allegation which led to the arrest of the singer at the Isolo Police Division.

Investigations by men of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, have however revealed that Obesere is innocent. This was made known by the Lagos State Police Command Spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, in an interview with Encomium Magazine.

Answering questions about the case, Braide said that Nike Olaiya who accused Obesere of rape is a blackmailer and extortionist, adding that both accuser and the accused agreed that they had consensual sex but Nike was trying to blackmail the musician afterwards.
"As far as we’re concerned, and based on the investigations carried out so far on the matter, most of the allegations by Obesere’s accuser, Olanike Olaiya, were fabricated. Although, they both admitted having canal knowledge of each other, there was absolutely nothing to show that Nike was raped as she claimed. It was a frame-up because the lady has refused to honour police invitation. And the doctor’s report available to us has shown that she was not raped. We’re made to understand that this lady on her own went to Obesere’s house in search of Obesere, that she spent the night there," Braide revealed in the interview.

"Before she went to make such allegations, she had already contacted Obesere on phone to demand certain amount that she was bleeding and so on. Obesere now invited her to a hospital. The doctor examined her and he didn’t see anything abnormal. And they said for further clarification, she should go for scan. She left and never returned to the hospital. The investigation so far carried out shows that it was a frame-up because the lady has refused to honour police invitation. And we have a doctor’s report that showed that she was not raped. I think it is a calculated attempt maybe to tarnish the image of the public figure."

This exoneration has left Obesere and his household very elated. In a chat with NET, the singer expressed excitement at how things have turned out.

"I am very happy with what has happened. Thank God the Police did their job and the truth has come out. I and my family are grateful to God and to the Police,’ he told NET.

The Oyo State-born Fuji maestro is already looking to go back to his work without any sort of scandal holding him back. ‘I have started recording again for a new album and I will also write about my experience with this rape allegation," he told NET.

On the reports that he is planning to shoot a movie based on the scandal, the singer told NET: ‘It’s true, I’m planning a movie based on the truth of the whole issue. I am still in the process but nothing is concrete yet."
